Hey, I'm new to DIY juice, and I was just wondering if anyone could give me some tips on these pre-made bases? Specifically, VPG Optima 30/70 PG/VG mix @ 12mg/ml.

I'm not sure how to go about correctly calculating the mixes required, since most calculators, recipes and information seems to deal with PG, VG and Nicotine as individual units.

From my understanding, if I want to add flavoring, I would not be able to reach 12mg/ml with my juice since the flavoring would dilute it? And, basically, the highest I could go with, for example, 17% flavoring added is 7mg/ml if the flavors have no PG, and 5mg/ml if they have PG?

Yes, that's the downside to using premixed bases + heightened cost and so if you still choose to go that route for convinience, then you have to live with not landing exactly on your prefered nic level and skewed pg/vg ratios.

You don't really need a calculator for premix, since you just add the percentages of flavor in your/others recipes, shake and finished. E.g. if adding 17% flavoring, you get roughly a 10mg nic 40/60 pg/vg mix. You could also e.g. get a little higher nic than you normally want, and then get e.g. the "pre-mix" in all 100% vg, and then if using 20% flavor(which practically almost always is pg based), then you get 20/80 pg/vg, and if 30% flavor, 30/70 pg/vg, like optima.

Btw, I just checked molinshop, where the optima premix is from, and the next step up from 12mg is 15mg, both in optima and vg...

Edit: To use a calculator, then just select e.g. 0% nic, and shoot for 100% pg, and then add the flavor percentages, and then you just add the ml's of flavor listed and ml's of premix listed under PG. Theres also other probably smarter ways to do it where you actually see the new nic level or pg/vg ratio, but this was just a quick rushed version...

If you use 'juice calculator' (uploaded by a user on this forum - search in the DIY section stickies) downloaded from dropbox I think, then you can input specific properties of your nicotine base (PG + VG + stength), it will then tell you what to add to get to your target ratios etc. It is an awesome DIY tool.

You should buy the strongest nicotine base you can get from Molinshop (without a trade account), the calculator will tell you exactly how much of it to use to get to your desired nic level. If you are in the UK then you can get 72mg/ml Chemnovatic Nicotine from elsewhere (a re-seller of molinshop nic).

I would recommend mixing by weight to keep it accurate.

Thanks again!

Is this the tool you're talking about? http://drop.io/ECF_DIY Found the link in the sticky page, but it doesn't seem to work. I just get a page with an ad, and a link to drop.io..

Not sure, the link you posted has been blocked out by admin or whatever.
I think it is the one at the start of this thread: https://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/threads/new-calculator-to-try.480587/

It is awesome, I had to search for it, I don't think it was on the stickies list after all.

Oh, and if you like the nic from molinshop, and want's higher than there 36mg option, then pink-mule.com uses same nic source(chemnovatic) and has up to 100mg, and also no water in bases. They're founded by a danish'men, but located in spain, and delivers in whole EU + elsewhere and has a 8% discount code you can find everywhere, or PM me if you can't...

Thanks guys.

Anyways, I was also wondering how combining 2 ready made bases work? is it possible?

For example, how would I go about calculating the resulting nic and PG/VG level if I combined a 12mg, 30/70 PG/VG base with an 18mg 50/50 PG/VG base?

The reason I'd like to do this is because I'd like to increase the nic level in the 12 nic 30/70 PG/VG base with the 18mg 50/50 PG/VG base, since I'd get like 5 mg/ml or less with the flavors added on the 12 nic one -- would like to get 7 mg/ml or more at 20% flavor.

Also, how do I figure out if my flavors have PG or not?

Hi,

eJuice Me Up - Best eJuice Calculator
(ctrl+B) Tools>Nic combine

Presume PG or alcohol as a carrier for any flavour that doesn't explicitly claim to NOT contain those ingredients.

Cheers
