So, I got my Inferno-T kit in the mail about 2 1/2 weeks ago and I thought I could provide a review for all those considering. There's a lot of Ego-type kits out there and from what I understand, it doesn't make much of a difference which you choose. Just so everyone is fully aware, I already had a Magma and felt relatively faithful to Volcano as a company, plus with this last order I knew I would have a good bit of money off my next one thanks to their rewards program (big +). Because of that, I did not really look around much and to me, the Inferno was the no-brainer choice of the Egos. That said, it's a pretty good price and the paint job is really nice. Some may not like it because it is a bit flashy and I can see the appeal of a smooth batt in a different color or whatever your preference. But I do think there's something to be said for appearance, and I find the appearance of the inferno to be much nicer than the others. That of course has no bearing on performance, just my two cents. My goal with the inferno was to try out all the possible combinations (atty with cart or dripping, carto, and tank) that seemed appealing to me… which was all of them, so I ordered the T kit as well as a 306 cisco and 1.5 ohm low-res "lava" atomizer, plus cone. I also tried the setup with the Magma 510 attys plus the volcano 510 cartos. With all that testing, I'll split up this review into sections by configuration and how they compare to each other. I would like to add the disclaimer that, if you read above, I clearly like Volcano as a company. Despite that, I try to keep my reviews as unbiased as possible whether it's for a device, e-juice, whatever. On to the review!
Tankomizer and Tank:
This was the first setup I tried, and a definite step up from the Magma (surprise!). I really like this system… I found it to be great on vapor and flavor, but lacking on TH for the most part. Moving from the Magma to the Inferno, the TH was much stronger upon the first few hours vaping but as soon as I got accustomed to it I haven't been getting much TH… it's definitely a little different for different juices, but overall I find this to be pretty mild on my throat. Then again, I don't like a massive throat hit… except this was mild even for my tastes. The flavor comes through great though, IMO. Have gotten a SLIGHT burnt taste once or twice (although nothing like the burnt taste you can get with attys) and all I did was gently blow in and pull out on it without firing it off and waited for about a minute before going back for more. Problem solved. It's probable that isn't a foolproof method, but it seems to get me through minor binds.
Magma 510 Atty and Cart:
Like many (but not all) vapers, I quickly moved away from cartridges after I got used to other methods that worked better for me (i.e. dripping, cartos). I found cartridges to give the least vapor and throat hit and the flavor was so much better just about every other way. I still had leftover pre-filled and refilled carts, though, so I thought what the hey, I'll try them with the Inferno. I was extremely surprised and pleased to find out that with the Inferno they really don't work half bad. The blue foam mod definitely works better than stock cartridges, but I was able to get some really decent hits with the pre-filled Magma carts. They were a little inconsistent, but using the pre-filled carts with the Inferno was so much better than ever using them with the Magma. I would not recommend necessarily buying new carts to go with the Inferno because just about every other method works better than carts and atty BUT if you have leftover cartridges you think you'll never use, this is a great way to go ahead and use them up. In the same vain, if for whatever reason carts are your favorite way to vape, the Inferno is (in my opinion) a way better device for carts than a 510. With the Magma I found I constantly had to "fluff" the carts to make them work better but I never really had to with the Inferno. I know that doesn't necessarily make much since because the cart sits in the atty the exact same way but… that's how it went for me.
Dripping on a 510 vs. Cisco 306 vs. 1.5 ohm Low Res "Lava":
I thought I could combine these methods all into one section because there wasn't a phenomenal amount of difference between them but at least I can expand on the pros and cons of each. Dripping onto the 510 was definitely the most mild in terms of TH and gave off less vapor than the others. That said, I like dripping on the 510 when I want the best flavor and I'm not in the mood for a wicked throat hit. This makes for a good first-thing-in-the-morning or last-thing-at-night vape, similar to the tank system in vapor production, TH, and flavor. The 1.5 ohm low res Magma atty was my least favorite… it just seemed a little harsh and the flavor was somewhat muted. Despite using it a lot and cleaning the primer out and cleaning it every so often, the "Lava" atty seemed to retain a slightly industrial aftertaste and the flavor of the juice just didn't come through clear enough for my tastes. Of these, the 306 was by far the best. Vapor, flavor, and throat hit were all wonderful… definitely the best of the different drip tip+atty configurations. Hit was smooth but just tingly enough. If you do order a 306 or "Lava" atty, be warned that if you wish to use the cone you must get an XL drip tip.
And finally, 510 cartos:
I've used a few different brands of 510 cartos but I decided to go ahead and order the volcano brand because a lot of people like them and I figured they weren't very expensive plus I thought they'd probably work well with other Volcano brand products (even if basically everything comes from China). They are a little bit of a pain to fill since you have to use the syringe unless you have other carto condoms sitting around, but vapor production and flavor were incredible. Definitely second-best to dripping for flavor and probably the best for vapor. It's a little hard to say for sure which configuration gives the most vapor because everything worked great, but the cartos taste delicious and give off veritable plumes. TH for me, however, was almost non-existent. Almost invariably puffing on the cartos was like breathing in flavored, nicotine laced air. That's not really all that bad, though, since it's very easy to switch configurations if you want more TH.
So, there is my relatively exhaustive review of the Inferno. There wasn't any setup I was disappointed with though some were clearly better than others. Overall, I think this is a great PV and a great bang for your buck. I hope everyone finds this helpful in some respect or another and that this leads you to check out the Inferno, some other EGo, or steers you away entirely. I have had nothing but good experiences with Volcano as a company, so I strongly recommend at least checking them out if you're new and haven't already (or old and never given them a chance). Good luck in your searches and vape on!
