The two bases for liquids are PG (propylene glycol) and VG (vegetable glycerine). PG is a product of the petroleum industry. Petroleum is decayed and liquified plant and animal matter. They just refine and separate the different chemical components and further refine them into products we can use. VG is made from pressed plant sources and refined into a clear and pure product.
PG is used in thousands of the products we eat, drink, and rub on our skin. It's in our toothpaste, our foods, and it's used as a de-foaming agents in canned soft drinks. It's in snow cone liquid to make the
juice stick to the ice. It's in salad dressings and other condiments as a thickener.
PG and/or VG is what makes the vapor when heated. The rest is mostly flavoring and water. There are no studies that show either to be carcinogenic. They are both technically organic compounds. They are not addictive.
Nicotine is addictive, but not nearly so in ecig juices as it is in manufactured tobacco products such as cigarettes. Cigarette makers add numerous products to make the effects of nicotine more pleasurable and addictive.
Glycerine is a part of our life whether we vape it, eat it, drink it, or soak in it. The bath soap we use contains glycerin.
