Hello,

I am a bit confused about variable voltage/wattage. I have a Kanger Mini Protank 3 atomiser, and an eGo-V V3 Mega, which is a variable voltage/wattage battery. The thing I'm confused about, is what are the maximum recommended settings for the atomiser, so that I don't burn it out? The atomiser's resistance is 1.5 ohms. Is it ok, if i set the voltage to 6V? Thanks in advance!

Start out at about 4V and work your way up in .1V increments. Different coils and tanks behave differently, there isn't a single hard and fast rule.

You'll know when you hit the limit because it's going to taste bad. You'll either get a dry hit or a burned hit, both of which taste nasty. When the flavor starts tasting bad you've gone too far. Back it down until it tastes good again.

I've read start at about 2V above the resistance of your coil and work your way up until you start to get a hint of "burning". Then back down, and you should be at the right spot for *YOU*. You may have to alter a bit, depending on the kind of juice, as some will burn at slightly different levels.

I always start a new coil low and work my way up to avoid "power-slamming" it and burning the wick (that leaves quite the nasty taste...)

I'd start even lower than 4 volts due to experience with such Kanger products. More like 3.5 and be prepared to go up or down. They like to make sure you have plenty of heat ;) ... 3.5V is close to 6 watts, so "6" would be fine in that mode.

6V is actually four times as much power as 3 volts due to the square law. While I think changing the voltage not the power makes more sense, changes are more powerful than they may seem. Add to that, the sweet spot tends to be narrow, the transition into burning almost a runaway effect as the wicking rate is exceeded.

Hi Dovis and welcome to ECF.

IMO, if you have the ability to set watts do that. If you set volts and you switch to a different resistance head your power (watts) will change. Setting watts means the device will change the voltage to keep the watts you set.

With a 1.5 ohm head, 6 volts would give you 24 watts. Your battery does 15 watts max, so it would not actually output 6V with a 1.5 ohm head on it. IMO 24 watts would also give you a very burnt hit with a protank 3.

I would start at 7-8 watts with the protank and increase in 1/2 watt steps until I either like the vape or the vape becomes slightly burnt. You'll taste it when that happens. If it does happen, just back the power down a bit and that will be the most power you can use with that juice and that head in the protank. The max power number will go down as your coils get gunked up as you use it. As long as the coils are wet you will not damage anything doing this.
