This is actually a question I was getting ready to ask. My girlfreind isn't doing well coming off of analogs. When she ionhales it burns the back of her throat and makes her chest tighten up. Right now she likes Dekang menthol and FSUSA thin mint cookie flavors but shes haviung this problem. I think I'm gonna order a adapter to run the 901 atty and also some thin mint in both 100% PG and 100% vg

i had read that vaping can exagerate depression if you suffer from it...has anyone else come across this?

No, that isn't true. Nothing in e-juice can cause, or exaggerate, depression.

However, the loss of MAOI's (which are in cigs) can bring on depression. E-cigs don't have MAOI's. So someone switching to e-cigs may experience some depression. However, this is caused by quitting smoking - not by taking up vaping.

And many people prone to depression do find that they don't get as depressed by switching to vaping as they would if they quit some other way, because nicotine can also help fight depression.

I know that I got depressed every time I tried to quit smoking, before vaping. But I didn't get depressed when I started vaping. And 4 months in, I still haven't gotten depressed.

There are forum areas on Health and smokeless tobacco -- some people use something called snus, a smokeless tobacco variant, combined with vaping.

(I'm blessed to not suffer from depression, but I'd rather be using properly prescribed meds or snus than continuing to smoke.)

I was going to suggest talking with a doctor since there are already more severe medical conditions involved, but that has been covered already. I'll add my vote for talking to a doctor.

It would be nice to have plenty of doctors involved as people switch to vaping. It seems that having professionals who are able to attest to the benefits of vaping could offer a great defense against the FDA.

I decided to come back to this thread to mention a problem I'm having at the moment.

I received an order today from FSUSA with a sample of strawberry cheesecake. Their samples are all 24mg (and 50/50 pg/vg, I believe).

I decided to drip for a while and try out this sample liquid. I'm using an atomizer (with a bridge and mesh) and a drip tip. The flavor is pretty good, but my throat and chest are getting a little sore from vaping this 24mg liquid. In my case, at this moment, I believe the harshness in my throat and chest pain is due to the nicotine being too high for me. I usually vape 18mg, which is perfect. So I could add a little Glycerin (from Walmart) to lower the nicotine level, and that's what I'm about to do. The flavor will decrease a little bit, but that's okay, because my throat will quit hurting in a few minutes.

Actually, the above was a copy and paste of a message I posted in another thread. I ended up going back to my regular eGo with the 18mg liquid and didn't add any Glycerin to the sample liquid. The throat and chest pains have been going away gradually.

Here's another message I just posted that's related to pain in the mouth, throat, and chest:

Some of the mouth pain we might experience is from the inside of our mouths going through the healing process after we quit smoking. I'm sure that's what caused the pain in my gums initially (for about five days) and the recent pains I had in each cheek (back by where my wisdom teeth used to be, right in the middle of the cheeks) that lasted for about five days on each side - at different times, not at the same time.

I've had burning type of pains on the roof of my mouth, my tongue, my throat, and chest from the extra heat from the 5 volt passthroughs.

I've had gum pain from too much VG (too much sugar in the Glycerin).

I've had throat and chest pain from a nicotine strength that was too much for me.

It's definitely not easy to identify what causes each different pain, especially for new vapers, but after about two months of vaping, it becomes much easier to know what causes what.

Well, I'm already changing my mind about what I said in the quote. I just used the same atomizer (with a bridge and mesh) with the 18mg liquid I received today, and I also had throat and chest pains. So there's something about the 510 Premium atomizer that I bought at litecigusa.net that produces too much heat for me.

Because I just switched to using the debridged and dewicked atomizer that came with my Bauway 1300 eGo kit, and when using the same 18mg liquid, I'm getting no throat or chest pain.

Could the Premium 510 atomizer be low resistance? Here's the link to that atomizer:
LitecigUSA Premium Joye 510 Atomizer

So, it wasn't the higher nicotine that caused the pains but the warmer vapor from the atomizer.

Update: Sorry, but I promise this is my last post about this. I finally figured out what caused the throat and chest pain I've been having late today and tonight. I used the 5 volt passthrough in my office for an hour or so each on Wed and Thurs and for about three hours today. That extra heat has gradually burned into spots in my throat and lungs. So I just need to slow down with vaping, quit using the passthroughs completely, and allow those burns to heal, because any time I vape tonight with the eGos and cartomizers, the vapor is irritating those burns and causing more pain. This is what I went through back in early October when I first got the passthroughs -- and is the reason why I quit using them, until a little bit this week.

So I'm sensitive to the heat produced by 5 volts, probably due to taking three blood thinners every day for the last six years, including Coumadin, Plavix, and Aspirin, not to mention Crestor, Toprol, and Prinivil.

The solution to ease the throat and chest pain was to drink 1/2 bottle of water.

Hi All,
I will put in my 2 cents. I have COPD and among other breathing issues. I have been vaping for about a month now. I had the same problem as the original post. Chest pain, heavy feeling in the chest, and coughing fits, shortness of breath The first couple of days I felt even worse and had to hit my rescue inhaler several times a day. I also stayed on my normal inhaler.
I think that vaping irritated the COPD in the beginning. But now after lowering the nic level down to 11mg and playing with mixes of PG/VG I can actually say I feel 100% better. But the best advise to give her is to just double check with her doc. and make sure something else is not going on. Keep us posted with the progress please.
