Vaping and Mosquitoes: Possible Warning

This is the first summer that I'm a vaper. Last weekend at my cottage, I had gotten bit SO many times my feet were covered almost everywhere (I was wearing pants and a hoodie so only my feet were really exposed). I sprayed OFF! and everything, and was even near a fire. I've NEVER gotten so many bites before!

Could it be the e-liquid? I'm thinking it's the sweet scent of the juice that attracts them because the amount of bites- with OFF! and the fire- was scary. Has anyone else experienced this??

First you should exclude other possibilities - food, cosmetics etc. Haven't heard of e-liquids being mosquito attractants.

We've just been cooking the same food we always do there, and I don't really wear make-up especially there. I get what you're saying though Could easily be anything but it's still on the list of possibly attractant to mosquitoes.

Most likely there was probably more rain in the past month near your cabin, thus better breeding conditions for a larger mosquito population. Mosquitoes can detect carbon dioxide and organic acid in sweat from 100 feet, and when closer they zone in on heat and movement. Those stimuli are much stronger than any sweetener would be.

It might be possible that since you quit smoking the change in your blood pH and chemistry makes you more "appealing" to mosquitoes. However, non-smokers have lower heart rate and better oxygen absorption, so you in turn give off less carbon dioxide, making you less "appealing".

My guess is that it's just a increase in mosquitoes in your area.

...Okay this is definitely good stuff to know! I think because vaping is new that anything that changes I first think "could it be vaping?" but it's natural thought to do so. Thank you for the info, I'm glad to know that this doesn't ATTRACT bugs!

FYI- having been in the nutritional supplement business a few years back-
taking garlic soft gelles daily: you will not get mosquito bites!!!!
It could take a week or so- to get the garlic levels where the mosquitoes will leave you alone.
Garlic is also a natural antibiotic as well.

I take 2 everyday. There is no odor or garlic breath what so ever. While the rest of my family will get bites, I have not had a mosquito bite in over 10 years!!

First, let me apologize if someone else has already said this as I don't have time to read through all the posts so far. But...

I do think that vaping can cause a higher attraction of mosquitoes. Mosquitoes detect you through many ways. Primarily through the detection of carbon dioxide, heat, and moisture. When you are vaping, you are exhaling loads of CO2 along with a lot of warm moisture (After all, vapor consists of moisture...). So it really makes sense that as you are exhaling all of this warm vapor that mosquitoes will be drawn more heavily to you. It is true that nicotine acts as a natural bug repellent however. I am unaware how much nicotine remains in the moisture or if they it dissipate prior to them reaching you. I definitely would rule this question highly plausible!

Funny you ask... Here's one of my first THREADS on the ECF.

'Skeeters home in on CO2. Since I vape waaaay beyond the cigs I use to smoke, I've found that dem lil' suckas zero in from as far as Alaska (at least if seems that way). Guess I gotta wear a garlic lei... then NO one will bother me!

As horrible as it is... I am allergic to garlic. That's basically out of the question

I'll just spray more OFF! and have my smoker buddies stay near me to shoo them away
