I've had a Nitecore I4 now for about a year and just got the 2014 model recently released also. I have had no problems charging Sony IMR VTC4/VTC5 or the Efest purple 20, 30, 35 amp batteries either, nor any battery it is stated to charge. I often charge 4 "High Drain" batteries at a time also including off my car cigarette lighter plug when camping.

Well I got the Xtar VP1 and charged the other two VTC5's no issues at all, set both channels to 1.0A current and they were charged far quicker than the intellicharger did the other two before I pulled them. All my batteries will be going in the Xtar from now on.

That's the charger I use, but I charge at .25A unless I don't have time to wait (which is rare).

After using the intellicharger and usually waiting 3-4hrs for a charge I'm enjoying the faster charge with the Xtar, did an EFest 35A tonite and it was much quicker than the intellicharger. All in all I'm very happy with the Xtar.

I only use vtc4 batteries and I use this charger, never had a problem really. Once it seemed like it took forever but it was a new battery, first charge. So it didn't really think much of it. I have the yellow label.
My 18360 batts are VTC4s and I'm using the wall-wart charger that came with my Vamo, I've noticed that the first few charges took quite a while. Lately, they seem to charge quicker. I'll generally let them run down to about 3.5 volts, or the vapor production drops off significantly, before I rotate in a fresh battery and put the other in the charger. Is that typical for this type of battery? I've got a NiteCore Intellicharger i4 on order.

i have the i2 and the i4. xtar vp2 should arrive tomorrow. that's going in the big rig for charging on the road. the intellichargers were fine at home, but the sliders suck. it's going to be nice needing less than 3 hands to put a cell on the charger. added accuracy, current and a display will merely be side bonuses.

yes. voltage sag happens rapidly once the capacity is depleted.

So it seems the consensus is that the nitecores are fine to use with vtc4/5s? I'm going to order a i4 in the next few days, I run a Vtc5 but have a jenky charger. The xtar looks awesome but a tad pricey for me ATM. If I didn't need to buy a few more batteries I think I'd grab it but can get a i4 and two more vtc5 for the same price

True! It's too bad more people didn't know but Vaperev recently had a half off sale on all their chargers (they sold out lighting quick). The craziest part is that their Nitecores only went down to their normal price! LOL

Anymore news out about charging the VTC5's? I've got the i4, and it's the second version, but not the 2014 version. I'm wondering what the major difference(s) between the two chargers are, and if I should pick up the 2014 version to charge the Sony batteries. There's a pretty big difference between spending ~$15 for a new one of those versus 40-$50 for an xtar vp2. With batteries costing roughly $10 a piece, I don't want to compromise their integrity or possibly worse, so if need be, I'll shell out the extra cash, but I'd like to know a little more so I'm not blindly and impulsively making some arbitrary decision.

If this was an actual issue, by this time, you would see news about it. Don't get me wrong, I love my XTar VP1 (and would recommend it), but I think it'll be just a little time before the price on the VP1 (a perfectly great charger) sees it's price go down to about $25 bucks. I think you are just fine with the i4, but take whatever precautions needed pertaining to the specifics of that charger. I don't have it, but I think you'll be fine considering you are obviously conscientious.

p.s. The only reason I can see getting an Xtar VP2 is for the 26650 capabilities.

Oh and the 2014 version of the i4 will handled 26650 IMR batteries also.
