I am just wondering if anyone else has experienced what I am. I am not sure if this is related or not to ecigs and quitting smoking as I cannot find any documentation of it at all..

The last couple of weeks I noticed a strange sensation at the back of my tongue - almost a numbness which I feel also in my throat,
So i got a flash light and took a look inside my mouth and this is what i noticed.

My Uvula looks like it has dropped - its now touching my tongue at the back.
The soft palate surrounding the uvula seems to be puffed up as well and dropped.
My tongue at times feels numb and I get strange tastes in my mouth.

On a side note my gums are bleeding alot now after 40 days and i still get mouth ulcers but not as bad. I am just wondering if anyone else have ever noticed a swollen uvula or palate - or the tongue for that matter.

I thought about the PG thing as well but this started a month in. I did not notice this until 30-35 days after the fact. Really weird cause at times it feels like my throat is closing off and I have to breath through the nose. Its like the whole structure of my mouth has changed.
It doesnt look the same anymore and nothing feels right.

One other thing I have totally lost the gag reflex as well. That has gone. I used to brush tongue and get this reflex now its no longer there as the uvula has dropped down to my tongue.

SO weird - almost like quiting smoking is causing more damage then good.. lol

I definitely opened this expecting something dirty as well. Didn't know how to handle it. lol.
Was going to be a passive reader because I assumed the OP would be offended if I made a joke.

As far as what OP is experiencing, you want to tell a doctor immediately. Dont count on a forum for med adv.
Until you get a doctor's appointment, try drinking more fluids, it could have something to do with dehyde.
Also, you may be experiencing an allergic reaction. Try rubbing PG on a spot of your arm, then VG on another.
Check back 30 min or so to see if either spot is inflamed or turning red. (although this isn't a good allergy test)
Definitely drink more and contact a doctor and ask them to take a look.

He may be against vaping, and arrogant in his stance. In which case he will recommend you switch to patch/gum.
Switching to the patch/gum for 3-4 days to see whether or not that solves the problem might be a good idea.
If you can, you might try doing some allergy tests on your own. You can buy PG from walmart pharmacy. VG from bakery. Other than this I can't help. I'd just have the doctor check it out and report back to this thread so we can help further. Hydrate as much as possible in the meantime.

I think the line of thinking goes like this.

Vaping causes dehydration which makes the mouth get very very dry, and that is one of the supposed reasons why the uvula gets swollen.
In my case I had no mouth symptoms until I stopped smoking and started vaping.

I started getting mouth ulcers all the time and then this swollen back of throat - palate and uvula dropping down.

The only way to tell would be to stop the usage of the ecig and see if it clears up. However I am finding I am now addicted to ecigs so i just gave up one addiction for another... LOL

Mind you there are lots of positive effects I have had from quitting smoking but over all I think for some people the usage of e cigs is not so good, maybe like in my case.

I was also thinking I am allergic possibly, as i am getting these weird burning sensation in my jaw line and numbness on my tongue.

I did go to the doctor, who has me doing several tests but had no clue about the ecigs and effects. He sent me to a nuerologist cause of numbness and in that appointment they said nothing wrong.

I called dentist and he has never heard of this either wants to send me to an oral surgeon. Has not even saw it..

My only worry is it eventually blocks my throat and i stop breathing.

Funny how I stopped smoking to get better breath huh?? LOL

Hopefully if I Sop using these ecigs it will all go away

This actually happened to me years ago, way before I ever even heard of vaping, probably around 2004. I got a really sore throat and noticed as you did that my uvula was swollen and hanging lower than normal. It was actually touching my tongue. I went to the doctor and it turns out that I was just sick and that this is where the infection was the worst. I don't remember getting any meds for it and it eventually cleared up on its own.

I have been having the same symptoms as you described... Swollen palate dropped lower than normal and somewhat sore throat, but not unbearable. I have been vaping for a little over 3 weeks now. I haven't smoked analogs in 8-9 months (Started chewing to quit smokes, then went to vaping to quit the chew). I went to my family doctor today, without much luck. They did a strep test that came back negative. I mentioned the e-cigs but they pretty much dismissed it and pushed some antibiotics off on me. I had them refer me to an allergy specialist but , can't get in there for another 2 weeks. So I have been searching onlinefor any answers... Curious what conclusion you came to?

My brother had this uvula thingy hanging so low he could flick it with his tongue. He didn't smoke, but drank a LOT of red wine and chewed Skoal. The doctor said it was acid reflux and the acids in his stomach were irritating his uvula. It was worse when he laid down, so he slept upright for a couple of months. He lost weight and took prescription acid reducers and eventually the problem resolved itself. Oh, yea, he had to stop drinking and chewing tobacco.

"Uvulitis is not a life-threatening disease and it should go away in a few days. Usually, doctors would point out that the case of a swollen uvula can be one of the many things:
  1. Dehydration
  2. Viral or bacterial infection. This is the most common cause of swollen uvula. This is an indicative that a harmful microorganism was about to enter either in the lungs of digestive tract.
  3. Excessive smoking can also be a factor as well as excessive alcohol consumption
  4. Frequent snoring
  5. Common colds and exposure to extremely hot or cold environment.
  6. Apthous ulcer or canker sores. This can also be called as the mouth sore and when the area of the sore is near the uvula, uvulitis can happen."

I had a similar thing happen when I started vaping. I had swelling and bumps on the roof of my mouth and my throat gets tight sometimes. The effect seemed to be alot more severe when I vaped high pg juice. Ive started smoking 30/70 and its going away, but not yet altogether, and its been about a month and a half, started like 2 weeks after I began vaping 70%pg juices. Im about to go to a doctor to make sure, doesnt seem right.

well, I went to a family doctor, who did a strep test that came back negative. She just pushed some antibiotics off on me and sent me out the door. I've taken all the pills, and nothing has improved. I also made an appointment with an allergy specialist, but I have to wait until the 26th before I can get to see them. I have limited my vaping to dripping 5-10 puffs at night, trying different juices each time. My sinus has been so inflamed or congested that it has affected my hearing. Right now it feels like I have water in my ears. I think I am gonna try to get in with an ear nose and throat specialist while I wait to get in at the allergy specialist.

I have the same problem! Bumps on the back of my throat and tongue. Down my throat gets irritated like there is a lump in my throat ... Really awful. I tried pure vg liquid but still the same. Wondering if some people just can't vape. Ugh
