Using tampons for wicking?

Hi there, this is my first post. As a 25 year ex-smoker I have now been vaping for a year an a half and have progressed from the likes of disposable clearomizers, thru to VV/VW mods and now am onto rba's. I currently am using the Fogger V4.1 (brass) and the AGA T-7.

I'm almost in the heaven with the flavor! (I'm more of a flavor guy than a cloud chaser).

My question is, I am finding it hard to find Rayon (Cellucotton) in the UK. After doing some research I was amazed to find out the ingredients for certain non-deodorant tampons is Rayon/Cotton. (Ingredients stated for absorbant materials are listed as:
Rayon and/or Cotton Fiber, Polyester or Cotton String, Polysorbate

So would they be a safe bet to use as wicking material? Has anyone tried them yet?

Thank you in advance for welcoming your friendly local fellow vaper :)

NOOO! LOL sorry for the strong reaction, but you don't want polyester anywhere near your lungs... If it was just pure rayon or cotton it would probably be okay, but you don't want to risk the polyester in that list.

EDIT:
1. Polyester melts at a fairly low temperature. You don't want to inhale that obviously.
2. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9610792
TL;DR: Inhaling polyester fibers can cause lung cancer. It'd be pretty ironic to quit smoking and get lung cancer that way.

Ha I just pointed another UK member to this website. They are a great UK vendor. I've ordered hardware from them a few times in the past and I'm not even from there. It just so happens they have what you need.

Cellucotton wick material - Rayon - 1m - Cloud 9 Vaping
1 meter of pure rayon wick for 1 pound. That will make a LOT of wicks.

EDIT: Depending on where you are in the UK, you can even pick it up in person: http://www.cloud9vaping.co.uk/epage...ath=/Shops/yxve46fvrnud/Categories/Collection

Great, thank you so much guys. I have just ordered 7 metres of Cellucotton from Cloud9Vaping. Amazon was asking for over £15 shipping fees from the States.

I posted this same article on another vapers forum and was told they were aware that some people do in fact use tampon material for wicking. Bear in mind the ingredient is listed Polysorbate, not Polyester? Is this the same thing then?

Again thank you for your replies and am looking forward to sticking around and for the delivery of 7m of Cellucotton:)

Polysorbate 80 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Polysorbate is generally considered safe, but as others have said, as a "medical" device, they don't have to list everything in it. Better to play it on the safe side.

Keep smiling, I originally lived in Vero Beach, Florida (used to buy lb bags of tobacco from The Pipe Den on Route60 and rolled my own before the price went up from $20 to like $80 overnight in April 2010).

Am now living on the south coast of England ;)

I bet the English coast reminds you of Florida. Not! Welcome to the forum.

The polysorbate listed isn't the polyester... polysorbate is an emulsifier and surfactant (most likely why it is used in a tampon). Now while it's considered "safe" by the FDA and is used in various foods and other things, here's something you should know... Polysorbate starts out as sorbitol... Which is actually a sugar alcohol and quite safe... So how do we turn sorbitol into polysorbate? by adding ethylene oxide... Polysorbate 80 means that it contains 80 parts of ethylene oxide... Ethylene oxide is a cyclic ether... Because it easily polymerizes that's how it turns sorbitol into polysorbate. But, here's what you should know about it... It's flammable... It's carcinogenic... It's mutagenic.... It's irritating.... And it's an anaesthetic. Now assuming all goes perfectly well, the polysorbate shouldn't actually contain any ethylene oxide... But when it's being used in something like a tampon do you really want to take that chance? Not to mention tampons are highly bleached... With chlorine... Which means it could also contain various dioxins which are also carcinogenic and particularly nasty to the immune system.

Oh, and that's assuming as pointed out, they've actually listed all the ingredients... If they haven't, who knows what else might be in there.
