Nice info anyone ever tried to put a mesh coil on the vivi novas?

I use four strands of crochet cotton thread that has been boiled, then I also do the doubled legs of the coil by folding back and twisting the resistance wire. Works great and wicks beautifully, not to mention I can pick up the thread at wal mart for $2 to $3.

Hi Folks,

I'm a big fan of the Vivi-Nova and also have a need to get my post-count up so I thought I'd share my experiences in case they are of any use...

I have a MK1 and a MK2 - the newer atomizer heads with the short wicks are a massive improvement on the originals and I now use these on both tanks at 2.8 ohms. I haven't found a great deal of difference in the draw with either and have no desire to change it - I am happy with a slightly tighter draw but I find it much looser than, say, a Bud tank which was what I mostly used before I got the Vivis.

For me, the Vivi is very good indeed but I suspect that results will vary a lot depending on your liquid and preferred wattage. For the record, I mix my own liquid which means that I can adjust the flavouring for different devices. It is PG-based with either 20 or 30% VG and I use flavourings with very little colour. I'm also not a big fan of high wattage/voltage/temperatures and my sweet-spot with the 2.8 ohm is around 4-4.2V on my LT. With a 3.7V device, the 2.4 ohm head would probably give a similar result.

The only maintenance I do is to clean the atomizer head every 2-3 tank-fulls (or when I notice the flavour dropping off. I just rinse it in hot water and then dry-burn until no more smoke comes off and it is ready to go again. Doing this, I have kept the same atomizer going since the beginning of June, vaping 3ml a day, practically every day. It still shows no sign of flagging which is pretty good for a part that cost £2.95.

As I say, if you want to use thicker/darker liquids and run it at higher watts, you may well get completely different results and burn throgh atomizers a lot quicker than I do. But, for me, it beats the Bud, DCT, CE2 (don't like those at all) and the Imist (too airy for me). I think it also gives a SR Boge Cartomizer a run for its money, without the hassle of having to top-up all the time.

It sounds like the OP was using some hybrid between the V1 and V2. Maybe your vendor was using the old heads with the new bodies? AFAIK, the extra strand was eliminated on the V2. I have V2 and V2.5s and none of them has that extra uncoiled wick laying on top. They also draw great, but maybe that depends on your PV. Regardless, I've been using them out of the box with no mods whatever, except re-coiling them instead of cleaning them. Surprisingly, the short single-strand wicks seem to work a lot better with the 70%VG juice I make.

Cleaning? Call me a slob, but all I do is rinse them out and re-coil them if the coil is really gunky. No boiling of parts, no waiting a day for things to dry. I shake out the excess water, stick on a new head and fill'er up. If I use the same head, I might dab the wicks a little bit to remove excess water, or not. Works fine for me.

I have two V1 and a V2, and enjoy all of them immensely. The V1 had some annoying issues but nothing unmanageable; mostly the 510 threading was very sloppy work & required an adapter to keep from cross-threading with my PV. (Cross-thread with a $3 adapter, who cares?) Bought some coil wire & wick material but haven't toasted any of them yet so am still awaiting candidates for experimentation (I count patience among my virtues - right below honesty & laziness). So far for the money the Vivi Novas are the best things I've tried, other than dripping. Personally, dripping on a quality atty is what I'm trying to match in something that will hold 2 - 5ml of juice. I think I know what it is & I don't think I can afford it yet, so for now I'm quite happy with these! :D

I don't know, looks to me like it would work but I'm not qualified to guess. I bought this: "Resistance heating wire Kanthal A-1 34 awg 75 ft", but just checked & they'd sold out. EBay seller Member id is coinswiesiek & the price was $4.25 + $1.95 shipping. I have no idea as to the alloy composition of Kanthal... might be the exact same stuff as your link except the awg. I haven't tried mine out yet so not sure how well it will work.

Best of luck! :toast:

I've got a teensy problem with boiling plastic. A lot of plastic has BPA in it. It's epidemic. Boiling plastic can release some seriously harmful chemicals. I might be getting a little off topic but let's face it. We're all here because we don't want to die of cancer. BPA is in your water bottles, lines the cans of your food, you microwave in it, even re-use plastic containers full of it. They did a study and found that almost all children had BPA in their urine, but there's hope. After a few days of being BPA free you do eliminate it pretty quickly. I'd go out of my way to avoid vaping out of plastic wherever possible. I have no idea what heating up these chemicals and inhaling them could do to you but I darn sure don't want to find out.

Public Service Announcement: Do not EVER reuse a butter or coolwhip container or anything like that if you care about life. Even the act of washing it in warm water can release some nice carcinogens. Even more important than that do not ever microwave in plastic unless it says it's food grade and microwave safe. Some containers even have a little dinnerplate with a fork and knife logo on the bottom. Of course, in order to be very safe (like me), just microwave in glass or in a ceramic or porcelain bowl. I don't even drink out of plastic cups and definitely not cans of soda or plastic water bottles. Eliminate plastic wherever possible from your kitchen. I am telling you this because my grandma would do these things and she died about a year ago today of stomach cancer. She was a notorious plastic microwaver. All of her plastic bowls had burn marks where she reheated stuff in them, a telltale sign of carcinogen intake. It was a terrible way to go, starving for a year before she finally passed away in Hospice - oblivious to what was going on around her, and unable to even speak because of the tubes. I'd like to say she didn't suffer, but she did - greatly. Don't be that person. Save your own life. These manufacturers are trying to save money wherever possible, they don't care if their products kill you in 50 years or less. They'll have taken your money to the bank long before that, and you can never prove in court that it was them, especially because soon you'll be dead. All they have to do is drag their feet and prolong the case and it's case closed.

I love the rebuildable idea. I have some Vivi minis, and Vivi Full size, Phoenix, DID... Been through tank systems, attys, cartos, carto tanks, etc. I'd say, today, the Vivi & vivi minis are my favorites across f-v-th. I rebuild with cotton #1 braided wick and 32 gauge nichrome. I fray the wick outside of the atty head for great wicking. I am almost done experimenting & spending. I would just love to have a high quality Vivi. Other than the cheap feel of the Vivi its a perfect design.
