FA Anise is one of the strongest flavorings I've used. I double-checked my calculations, just 0.5% (one-half of 1%) to get a pleasant, light anise taste as a single flavor. Wow!
This flavoring is colorless but slightly cloudy. I assume that means it contains some oil, though it isn't separating at all, so it's well-distributed. I like to avoid vaping oil, but at this tiny percent, I figure it's no biggie. I would inhale more oil frying eggs on the stove.
The flavor - man, FA sure got star anise right! It's just perfect in taste, sweetness, subtle cool sensation. Actual star anise tastes different than anise seed (and neither is licorice) -- FA's is definitely the star anise version.
At first vape I was reminded of biscotti and a great herbal chai I drank as a kid. My first mix was two parts Cookie, one part Anise, one part Almond, all FlavourArt. It's not the biscotti I was after. Normally I'd doctor it to get closer to my intended flavor, but this combination has me hooked, and I'll vape the whole sample as-is.
When I tire of this one, I'll try a chai mix with anise, cardamom (another FA flavor I just got, haven't yet tried), the usual cinn, clove, ginger, tea, and cream. In fact I might make some actual chai to drink as I vape.
But then what? I use star anise in many Asian/Indian recipes, but I wouldn't want to vape those.. I'm thinking anise would complement citrus, coconut, maybe pear.
What other (food or vapes) do YOU use star anise in? Have you tried FA Anise?
