The amount of power you can deliver to a coil depends on the synergistic interplay of atomizer design, coil position and heat-flux, wicking and airflow. Finding the optimal power depends on skill in balancing and perfecting these factors, and personal preference.
At normal operating temperatures coils should last for months. Assuming you are using a regulated device to power the coil, then the resistance of the coil isn't really important. What is important is the relationship between the mass of the coil, it's surface area, and the power applied to it.
The thing is that there is no magic formula, so experiment extensively and report back with your findings. Remember high wattage does not automatically mean a good vape. I personally value vapor flavor and density over sheer volume, though I do love a good plume.
