you my friend are my kinda of vaping buddy lol All togather now BRING BACK RAF!!!!

I've been lurking in this thread for quite a while, so decided to jump in at this point to second this this comment and add my thanks to Bill's wonderful reviews. I wish I had both the gift of taste and language as you do, sir.

I vape a variety of flavors, as my taste buds tend to get overwhelmed with a flavor easily. I put RY4s (and tobacco flavors in general, really) in lieu of more fruit-flavors vapes. However, recently I have went back to them for a change of flavor.

vaping right now:

1) My last 30ml bottle of AlienVision's Raf-a-licious, which is quite well steeped at this point, at 24mg nic strength. Probably my all-time favorite RY4 variant so far, it is unfortunate that it is no longer available. My favorite aspects of this juice is the smokey-sweet quality, combined with just a hint of sourness, that is just wonderful.

2) Mountain Oak CountRY4, 18mg. This one has had to grow on me a bit, as the tobacco base is a bit "different" to me, but now I'm starting to enjoy it. To my (rather bad) taste buds, it has a spiciness to it... it mildly reminds me of the clove cigarettes I used to smoke back in the 1980's.

3) Hangsen RY4 (Madvapes), 18mg. When I first tried this 5+ months ago, it seemed to be a much sweeter vape than it is now and I really enjoyed it. Perhaps my analog-hosed taste buds changed since then (likely), or the recipe changed (unlikely), but it now has a drier flavor with a much milder caramel tone. I still enjoy it, and commonly use it to "reset" my taste buds when vaping sweeter liquids.

Hope this helps...

If you guys are into the DIY I recommend the vaping zone RY4 super concentrate. It's good by itself if you let it steep enough but I like to add a spot more of either caramel or vanilla depending on my taste at the time. I recently ordered the want2vape flavoring and a 30ml bottle of primevaping's PV4 that I am allowing to steep. Can't wait

springfield,

Do you know if VapingZone's line of super-concentrates is from the same source (and thus are the same flavorings) as EcigExpress' Tobacco Express/Fruit Express line of super-concentrates? I've read differing opinions on the huge threads devoted to those vendors and flavorings.

Of course, ECX TE has RY4 and Ruyan 4 in 10ml bottles, while VZ SC has only RY4 in a 5ml bottle for about the same price. Are the two vendors' RY4s the same? It'd be nice to find out if someone knows for sure before I have to plunk down money to find out.

Thanks for the comments on the DIYs. It was I who introduced Bill to RWVapors' RY4.

Yes you did and my taste buds thank you! That is the great thing about this thread, experiment and share your reviews / thoughts for others before they plunk down hard earned cash. I never would have spent the money on this one had it not been for Bill's review.

Quick question how is Johnson Creek RY4? I can buy that locally.

gigills,

I've never had any Johnson Creek liquids. I didn't even know Johnson Creek made an RY4.

When I started vaping, joined ECF, and began reading about juice vendors, people seemed to have extreme opinions and feelings about Johnson Creek---either love or hate, but almost nothing in between. At that point, I decided not to risk being disappointed, and Johnson Creek receded into the background for me. Since then, I haven't had a reason to re-visit their site or even consider trying any of their juices.

As On Target wrote, if you try some JC RY4, please let us know how it is.

I looked at their web site and no RY4 is listed. However, I googled it and found a vendor that sells it. Web site is cuecig.com and a 30ml bottle is only $8.95. I would be leary of a juice that is priced this low, but that is just my opinion.

I have tried JC, about 4 of them just not the RY4, so not much help here but as Bill stated its a love or hate and I personal was grossed out by the tobacco flavors and its even hard to expalin what its like. JC has been around a long time and was one of the first ejuice websites I ever seen...Really I would recommend anyone to try them at least once, you never know it may be become your fav.....

Bill- care to share how long you let Creamy RY4 steep before you tried it? The Zeus site suggests that their liquid may be premade (It lists # in stock on each page although that number doesn't change when you change the options) and so i'm curious how essential the steeping process actually is?

midfi,

I steeped both Zeus liquids for one week---open bottle in a dark cupboard. Don't know if it made a difference or not, since I didn't try them fresh upon delivery. One week of open-bottle steeping has become my de facto standard practice with all new retail vendor juices, whether made-to-order or premade.

I went to the CueCig site and discovered the RY4. I think a case can be argued that it's not manufactured by Johnson Creek, but by some other American juice wholesaler. The Johnson Creek section is in a separate folder and is only a sample pack. All the rest of the juices on the CueCig site are called "premium smoke juice," and have names unlike any Johnson Creek liquids, plus different bottles and label styles. Of course, it's possible that Johnson Creek manufactures a secondary wholesale line of liquids, and that the CueCig juices in question are from that line, but it's equally possible that they come from another manufacturer. In the disclaimer blurb at the bottom of the home page, Johnson Creek is mentioned, but so is something called "Vincen Bay." That may be a previous name for CueCig---in my browser's history list, every product or page from CueCig is appended with "vbecig."

So, maybe the RY4 is from Johnson Creek, but maybe it's not.

Since posting the DIY pre-mix RY4 Flavoring Update yesterday (Oct 24th), I've made up fresh batches of all my DIY pre-mix RY4s. Even without steeping, the results have been surprising and illuminating. I just finished edited my post from Wednesday to reflect sometimes very different views than the often older information and opinions I used in the post's first version. My skills in making DIY juice are obviously much improved over what they were some months ago (I'm using higher-quality liquid nic than before, and my current 70/30 PG/VG base ratio carries more flavor than the all-PG or mostly-VG I used earlier on). A number of the RY4 Flavorings fare much better now in my judgment than they did back when I first tried them at least some months and as much as a year ago.

My apologies, but DIY RY4 is becoming a more important part of the thread, and I want to get this right.

If you're interested in DIY RY4, please go back and read that post again. It's quite different now: "New and improved," so to speak. LOL.

...glad to see you keeping up the good work, Bill.

Is this, in its RY4 incarnation: http://www.ecigexpress.com/diy-flavoring-tobacco-flavor-c-16_24/tobacco-essence-select-flavor-p-925
the same as either of these?
3. RY4 Essence Flavoring by Hangsen - tastes exactly like Hangsen's retail RY4; if you like Hangsen RY4, you'll like this
4. RY4 Flavoring Essence by HealthCabin - like their house brand RY4; if you like that, you'll like this...

Note: My link is to Tobacco Essense rather than Tobacco Express.

I really like the TFA RY4 Double and the Asian is quite good IMO also. Maybe it's my palate or maybe Halo has changed something as I only tried it recently but I found Tribecca to be one of my favorite "ever RY4" without steeping I vaped 120 ML in short order in fact LOL (using carto tanks @ 5v) I didn't detect "any off putting flavors" or "bug spray" for sure. I'm possibly getting "closer" to a "decent" RY4 using TA , synthetic tobacco flavorings and caramel and vanilla, I sure wish it were "easy" but then again maybe the time and effort will make me appreciate it more (IF I ever manage to get it close to "right" ) LOL

Therein lies the mystery, the RY4 Rosetta Stone, the Gordian RY4 Knot. If juice-manufacturers and artisan juice-makers can create wonderful RY4s (which they clearly can, if only in a minority of retail RY4s), then why can't anyone seem to make a pre-mixed RY4 flavoring concentrate that's truly superlative? TFA's RY4 Double and W2V's RY4 concentrates are pretty darn good, so perhaps I'm expecting too much, but out of the rest of the pre-mixed RY4 flavorings I've tried, most are either meh or just plain swill. Maybe 20% winners is all we're going to get.

Our palates may disagree often, but we share the opinion that M&P RYO4 is a distinctive and noteworthy RY4. It also happens to be one of the few RY4s I can replicate in DIY, since I have the same super-concentrated Tobacco Extract (that's the actual name, not a generic term---it's a derivative of Tobacco Absolute) that M&P uses in their retail RYO4. Very dark stuff---deep and potent. While not in my Top 10, it's usually in my Top 20, which isn't bad out of more than 100.

I wouldn't say that the Tobacco Express Ruyan4 and RY4 concentrates taste nothing like an RY4---to me, they're the unemployed factory workers sitting way out in the left-field bleacher cheap seats drinking beer and eating greasy hot dogs rather than the ultra-rich stockholders sipping champagne and eating caviar in the premium boxes behind home plate, but at least they're still in the park watching the game.

I agree that the tobacco flavoring bases in those concentrates leave something to be desired for my palate. I'm not sure this is accurate, but I think it's that "Marlboro" juice flavor thing. I've never met a Marlboro eliquid that I liked (with the sole exception of Maxboro/Backo from BWB, which I've grown to enjoy over two years.) I see the terms "hay" and "grassy" a lot in posts about tobacco flavors that people don't like, and I certainly understand them as pejoratives. Maybe that's what I'm tasting. I don't know. All I can say for sure is that both Tobacco Express RY4 flavorings fall short for me because of the tobacco. By contrast, I love the NET tobaccos in VapeRite VR4 and W2V RY4. I wish they were more "toasted" rather than "fresh leaf," but they're still yummy to me.

Many RY4s use tobacco flavoring that to me is either middle-of-the-road or otherwise undistinguished. But---as I've written recently---they get away with that by not putting me off, since the presence of flavors I don't like is actually more important than the absence of amazingly good flavors. I guess that makes me something less than a gourmet of juices, but there it is. On the other hand, when the flavors are wonderful with nothing lousy to distract me, I'm in vape heaven immediately. Halo Tribeca is a perfect example. After steeping long enough for the bug spray/disinfectant Halo base to finally vanish, the actual RY4 flavorings shine through beautifully. It just takes six months, LOL.

Bill,

I honestly do not know from my personal expirience but you might wanna check out this thread

For some ideas as too their similarities. From what I have read they are from the same source.

Jim, the last bottle of Tribeca I purchased did not have that Halo "purity" base that was off putting "hospital disinfectant, bug spray" ish. Roxette made the same comment a while back in the thread as well. Halo must have adjusted their base is all I can figure. My last bottle was purchased last month and did not require steeping. My first bottle obtained in a sample pack back in May was just plain awful right out the mailbox and was terrific in September. Tribeca is now one of my favorite RY4's and a week of steeping is plenty now.
