Alrighty then...

So I've been reading posts left and right. I've been researching different supplier websites. Here is what I've determined so far.:

1. Most everyone that posts on here; have or will soon quit smoking analogs. As this is my ultimate goal, that's good.
2. Trial and error seems to be very prevalent with these PV's both in the manufacturing of the device's as well as the learning curve for the user.
3. vaping seems to be a very expensive "habit". While the good outweighs the bad, it seems for those of us...or at least myself...who are on an extremely fixed income, this poses a problem. At $7.00 per pack of analogs and a 1-1.5 pack a day habit--I'm looking at $300.00 a month. However, I do not purchase $300.00 of cigarette's in one day. Here, you've got your mid-range kits that run on average of $70.00. I've read that you cannot compare analogs with vaping and that you'll vape probably twice as much, so I'd need to add additional carts, juice, or syringes or little squirty bottles, flavors, several attys, extra batteries. Did I leave anything out there.

Darn! The more I read on the forum, the more I'm thinking this is a rich persons "habit".

Well you can buy a DSE-801 starter kit from "Lightinthebox" for less then $30 plus shipping and they have e-juice for around $8 for 50ml, So you should do a little more research on this forum, there are many good and affordable places to shop..........Good luck! Don't give up before you start you won't be sorry! BTW I quit tobacco after 2 day's with my 801,that was May 11th:D

....and another thing....

According to most, I'd still be buying the analogs as well for a little while... yeesh!

At ruyandirect - 510 kit with two ecigs, charger, etc. - $33
atomizers for $8. Batteries for $10. Atomizers and batteries can last for months. Eastmall - premixed juice 140ml for $50 should last you 3 months. If you go DIY on the juice - yes, upfront costs on tools but after that, minimal per month to vape. And juice, atomizers and batteries should be all you need after the initial investment. Cigarettes are the rich person's habit. But they may not be paying out as long.

very much agree, there is a start up cost, and there is supply cost after that .. If I had found the forum before I purchased my first e cig, my start up cost would of been cut in half. Some of these starter kits are less then buying a supply of nicotine patches and lord knows how many times I tried them over the years just money in the trash on that.. The e cig seemed to me, the same leap of faith as the patches with the possibilties of the same result.. Either going to be the right thing for me or not. It was worth giving it a try.

my first e-cig was a positive experience I just realised after using it that I wanted a different experience and chose a different model . So yes could of been more informed from the start, but either way I learned vaping works for me was worth investing further. so looking at saving 100.00 to 150.00 vaping instead of smoking analogs, now that I am settled into vaping.

Step One: Buy all your hardware from Heaven-gifts.com Ruyandirect.com Best E-smoking Shop. Cheapest prices you'll find, fast cheap shipping, and a 1 year warranty on most items like the DSE series (6 month on 510's). Buy around 4 batteries and 5-6 atomizers and a couple of USB chargers, skip the kit, skip the carts, just buy around 50 blank carts and some juice. You can get started with all these items for around $100 initial investment.

Step Two: Determine what juice you like and how much you use and stock up.

Step Three: After the initial investment of $100, you're looking at spending $10-$20 a month on liquid, depending on how much you vape.

$20 a month compared to $300 a month, and having essentially a lifetime warranty on hardware where you can send it back for free replacements a year from now = PRICELESS

You can save even more if you invest in some VG/PG DIY type materials. ;)

I've been keeping a spreadsheet of my costs, at the moment it is working out at £9.88
(about $15) a day. However, I've got stocks of spares and liquid now so that price is going down and down on a daily basis. I haven't factored in the cost of electricity to charge :)

The spreadsheet tells me that the 26th of July is my "break-even" day compared to smoking real cigarettes. Which were costing me about £6 to £7 a day...

Then there's the savings in the cost of time, during the times I can continue to use the computer or watch a movie rather than going outside for 10 minutes.

And hopefully, if something else doesn't get me first, at the end of my life!

Here's my cost to date:

~250 for screwdriver (w/ 2 atomizers) + 10 additional atomizers / 20 carts / additional batteries
~70 for 5 x 30ml 36 mg unflavored juice + misc bottles, menthol etc
~70 for large Bickford order, flavors + PG
~5 4 oz glycerine

Approx total ~ $395.

Pack of day currently at 4.89*1.07*30= 156.97

This puts the break even point at approx 2.51 months.

I currently vape 2 mg, which allows me to make approx 3000 ml of juice, or the equivalent of 100 30 ml bottles. At 10 ml / week, I have enough juice for 300 weeks or 5.76 years.

Only recurring costs will be ordering flavors, now in bulk after having sampled with various recipes, batteries CR123A ~ $4, and atomizers after the first 12 fail (none have after a month), so at best $150 - $200 a year for replacing flavors, atomizers, carts, pg, glycerine, and batteries.

----------------

Oh and you will vape more than you smoke analogs so it is important to cut the mg down as much as possible. The costs go down significantly depending on the amount of juice you can cut.

Michelle, you are suffering from paralysis by analysis. When you posted for the first time a couple of days ago, somebody (forgive me for forgetting who it was) suggested the 510 Intro Kit from Innovapor for a mere $25 with NO shipping charges. The kit came (still does!) with pre-filled carts and enough trial liquid to last a few days and that's IF you switched to vaping only from day One.

I applaud the fact that you're trying to find the best deal out there. I wish I did, and since that time I've tried to help others from making similar mistakes to mine. Innovapor's $25 deal is your ticket to finding out if vaping is for you.

Note: It's such a good deal that I bought one for no real reason. My son could use the parts for his 510, the wife may like it better than her current PV or maybe I'll use it as a back-up. For the same cost of a few packs of analogs it doesn't really matter. It's THAT good of a deal. Here's the link again. Good luck to you.

Michele, yes the prospect of switching to vaping does seem expensive. However, look at the initial cost as a long term investment. Yes it costs more than smoke at first, but it levels off and starts saving you money in the long run. As for the part about taking time to switch over from analogs to vaping, it comes down to whether you are going to make a conscious decision to do so or not. I bought my first PV, an NJOY NPro at a gas station on 6/13/2009 at 2:30pm. I charged the battery for half an hour and took my first vape hit at 3:00pm that day. I have not had a single analog since. The trick was, as I said, making a conscious decision not to smoke and to use the vape instead. Like many others I used the patch, the gum, and many other methods to quit before with 0 success. Vaping feels enough like smoking and delivers the nicotine in the same manner as smoking and thus made it easier to make that decision and stick with it. Dont get me wrong, I do still get tempted when I am out and my battery is dead and I forgot to bring a spare (happens to me a lot as I am very forgetful), but again its all about making that decision. Its easier than you would imagine. I figure it would be just as hard as it was with the other things I had tried, but it wasn't nearly. It's not Staple's Easy Button, but it works and it works well. PV + the slightest bit of will power = no more analogs ever.

On another note I do NOT recommend the NJOY NPro! Go with an 801 or 510, I wish I had. Good Luck!

A lot of good advice... I'll just add my 2 cents...

Before you invest a lot of money in e-liquid, find a place where you can get sample sizes so you can try lots of different flavors. I'd recommend Nuvape E-Cig Refill Juice - Home . They have 3ml for $2, plus free shipping (as long as you spend $7.99). Two dollars isn't much to spend to find out if you like a flavor or not. It beats spending $10-30 on liquid you may not like.

I would also recommend getting a variety of nicotine strengths. You may want lower ones (or even zero) when you are just vaping away, and higher strengths when you are really craving an analogue.

Good luck!

Good point. I wish Ruyandirect had samplers, but I figured I would like menthol and I did so it's what I stocked up on, and unflavored so I could make my own flavors if I ever get around to buying some Bickford or Lorann flavorings. As for experimenting with nicotine strengths, personally I would recommend saving your money and just always buying the highest strength, then cutting it down to your liking with VG and/or PG. DIY juice is really easy after a quick trip to your local Tractor Supply store and getting some VG from a place like Mountain Rose Herbs | Bulk organic herbs, spices & essential oils.

God that reminds me I need to order some clove and peppermint oil from them...SO looking forward to DIY clove. Yummy.

Sorry I tend to ramble, love my juice and ecig hobby. :)

I bought a 510 starter kit last week and smoked analogs for 2 days while I was waiting for juice to come in. The juice I bought with the starter pack ( Hilton) I didn't care for.

Monday my juice came from Johnson Creek and Totally wicked ( Tennessee Cured and Black Tea ) I haven't smoked an analog since nor have I wanted one.

I plan on stocking up on some atomizers and batteries but even doing that and buying some more juice I will still be under what I spent for smokes in a month.

Finding the right e-cig and flavor seems to be the big thing ...after that it's all easy vaping.

Everything they say is true. Get a 510 with 2 atty's and 2 batteries and a couple bottles of juice. If you make an effort not to smoke and use your PV then you will stop.

As far as still buying cigs?
OK I've smoked about 13 since last Wed. usually I smoked 30 a day.
Now this is the cool part... Everyone of those 13 analogs tasted like crap and started giving me a headache. I tok 2 drags off one this morning and those will be my last. They tasted awfull.. My 510 with RY4 taste great. It's unbelievable. So yeah you might smoke still but I doubt if you'll enjoy it.

The PV takes getting used to, but within a week of not smoking I'm really feeling better. Breathing better, taste are better.

My $ even out day is not far off. Yours could be too.

Robert;)

I've spent around $3,000.00 been vaping for around 90 days.

So $30/day.........no problem!:thumb:

>

I'm a collector of all things e-cig too, but not quite in your league. If it's any consequence, you can deduct that $1,250.00 that you didn't buy analogs with, and I bet you forgot to deduct the stuff you sold recently.... I bet we can pseudo justify this down to about $10 a day in no time. =)

Hi Michele,

Don't get discouraged - some people just like more toys than others.
There is no reason that it has to cost more than smoking, unless you want it to.

When I first started out(on January 5, 2009), all I had was the Ultimate DSE901 Starter Kit from Katy. It cost me around $80 and it was all I used for about a month. I had been paying $7.40 a pack and smoked a pack a day, so I was ahead of the game. I have not smoked an analog since then.

I have been keeping my spending on a spreadsheet. Once I broke even, which happened in about 11 days, I allowed myself to spend another $80 or so. I wait another 11 days and order something else. I continue that strategy and I am loaded with toys and at this point I am still ahead of the game.

If you want - you can order from China. For a around $120.00 you can get 5 atomizers, 5 batteries, 2 chargers, extra carts and 35ml liquid.

Also, when you factor the cost of e -cigs - don't forget to offset it by the cost of chemo. Scary, I know - but true.

Good Luck - If you need any tips on ordering, PM me.
