I recently bought an IPV 4S and have been experimenting with my Kanger and Atlantis tanks and the subohm coils that come with them. Really digging the flavor, which is what I'm chasing (and not clouds). I ordered some Ni200 coils for the Kanger (which haven't arrived yet from Slowtech ;)) However, I also ordered some Ni200 coils for my Atantis tank. I've watched a few vids that basically review how the IPV 4S works and how to adjust the settings and such but they don't address temp and joule settings. I just recieved my Atlantis Ni200 coils today and popped one in (.15ohm).

My questions are about temperature and joule settings. The site where I ordered the Atlantis coils recommend that you don't set the temp above 410F. So I've set my temp at various levels between 350 and 375F @ 40 joules. Pretty good so far but I'm not really noticing the difference between the regular subohm coils and the Ni200. Not really getting a good TH yet and was wondering how to match up the temp with the joule setting.

Any suggestions as to make my experience better? Is there a chart or some kind of guide out there that can give you general suggestions as to settings? Or am I pretty much going to have to keep adjusting the settings until I find my sweet spot.

EDIT: I cranked the temp up to 400 and that's a bit better, however, it's starting to feel like my mouth is getting "coated" with juice. Not that any juice is coming up through the drip tip. Just wondering if this is normal.

Try bumping up your temperature. FWIW, on my TC devices, I set my wattage at 45 watts and 500 degrees. Excellent vapor production, excellent flavor, and the vapor is not at all too warm. This is on the Freemax Starre Pro, the Atlantis 2 and the Triton. Frankly, I don't like the Subtank for temp control. The Kanger nickel OCC's are horrible.

I think i have it now. I have a basic understanding of electronics and understand ohm's law, etc. However, I'm not familiar with joules so I looked it up and how it related to watts then it became somewhat clear on what temps I needed to use. Once I understood that a watt is just a flow of one Joule per second, and how to convert joules to watts, I got it.

With the IPV 4S you can't set watts in TC mode, you set joules and temp. So now I'm set at 50 joules (IPV can go to 100 but anything over 50 is pretty much redundant at the resistances of most coils) and I have the temp set at 425. That's working much better. I never used lung hits before subohming and still getting used to that so it'll probably take some time to get my temps higher.

Here's the three things to remember
    1. The 'joules' setting controls how fast (or not) your coil reaches the set point. Oddly the setting does not always follow the ohms of the coil. Suggest with each new coil start at the low (10J) memory setting and work your way up. To high of a setting may make the mod 'rattle snake' trying to regulate the temperature.
    2. Always press the up+down buttons on a room temp coil to read/set the ohms before use
    3. The temperature setting and value is a computed guess. While dry cotton will start to burn at 420F (wet cotton needs much higher temp to be damaged) many TC users vape at much higher temps.
Sometimes I'm happy with 380F and other times I want 460F. It depends on mood.
