Yeah, I'd done this before with every rebuild. Let's you get a couple more watts, but nowhere near what I got from the dual coil config with massive drilling. About the same as pushing a syringe through the center to create a juice channel. I've also grabbed a few threads of cotton from the center of each wick with tweezers and pulled them out to loosen the packing. Usually I'll do this as the cotton slowly wears to keep it's performance up. Even the stock heads perform pretty damn good.

With the dual coil setup I've gotten to 50 watts but flavor peaks around 37 watts. Above that it's just more vapor with flavor dropping out. Around 55 watts you'll get that hint that the coil is warning you "OK, dude. Knock it off." I'm sure 60 would dry hit so I didn't even attempt it since 55 was already uncomfortably warm and that's with the air ring drilled out.
