Im having problems trying to build coils on my subtank mini rba. I've been experimenting and building .6 - .7 ohm single coils but all I can get is minimal flavor and clouds with dry hits. I don't know if im using too much or too little cotton. I've tried both and keep getting the same thing. The stock occ coils on the subtank mini work perfectly fine and I have had my best vaping experience on them. Im still going to get the lemo and try my luck there because of all the great reviews. Is there anything you can recommend for the subtank mini rba or is it a dud?!

Hey, Welcome.... no it's not a dud. But it's finicky for wicking. Lots of reading can be done in the clearomizer section of the forum if you like... someone posted pics in the mini thread of optimal wicking method... few pages back. May help with your issue. I'd advise using a machete to cut through the recent drama about insulators melting from too much heat to get to the actual facts about wicking etc.

My 25mm subtank rba wicks differently than the mini so I'm not qualified to speak on it yet

What kind of mod are you using for your subtank?

Thanks for the reply. I'm using an istick 30w for my subtank mini. I just found rip trippers youtube video on building on the subtank mini rba. I just did exactly what he did and got it perfect. Got the coil resistance to .5 ohms. My problem was using too little cotton. Now that I got the mini rba perfect I found it vapes a lot better than the stock occ coils. Thanks for your help.

I'm in the same boat you started out in Heffe. I just got the mini last Tuesday and this is my first RBA. Thought it would be a good choice for me as I am always trying to reduce the cost of replacement coils and this is a great choice.

Now I just have to figure out what I'm doing wrong. Using the stock coils they send you for the RBA section, I've rewicked it 4 times now, more cotton...less cotton...more cotton, ugh! Thinking about just picking up my own Kanthal today and more cotton, as the learning curve is harder than I thought it would be. Also seem to be sneezing like crazy since I got this tank...allergic to cotton or something? God I hope not!

I've been having cotton issues with the RBA as well. I haven't wrapped my own coils yet, still on the ones provided. My first cotton attempt was way too thick, and ended up jacking the coil all up pulling it out, so I swapped it out for the second pre-wrapped coil. I've got it semi-decent now, but I've gotta pull for a second before firing and not take too deep of a drag to avoid dry hits.

I'm thinking I might have just gotten the cotton a bit too packed on the last one. I watched RIPTripper's video too, that was definitely helpful, but still got some learning to do!

No matter how much or how little cotton I put in the chamber, I always back it away from the juice channels. If you look down into the well and tilt it right, you should be able to see a little bit of light at the bottom of the juice channel. I use a micro screwdriver to pull it away but kanthal works just as well.

I've been using the subtank mini RBA for a couple of months now and have just bought a second because I love the RBA so much! I couldn't get the hang of winding my own coils with any great consistency so I bought the Coil Master kit and it is brilliant! I haven't made a single duff coil so far and I tend to change the coil at the same time as the wick every few days or so. I probably don't have to, but that's just me and it keeps the flavour nice and strong. I'm also vaping sweet liquids so it does have a tendency to have "gunk" build up and I find it easier to change the coil than try to clean it.

Although I've chosen the subtank I don't actually go for sub-ohm as I actually like a cooler, smoother vape with very little throat hit. For me it's all about the flavour! So I wrap 28 AWG, anything from 6 to 10 winds around 3mm. So the coils sit between 1.2 and 1.8 ohm or so. I also don't chase hi wattage/voltage and have my istick 30 set between 9 and 15 watts. For me this gives a good amount of vapour (not mega clouds, but more than enough to be satisfying) and intense taste.

I've only had dry hits when I get the wick wrong, which are thankfully very rare for me now. I'm using organic cotton wool from The Body Shop and this is working well for me. As I'm using higher levels of VG (70% or above) I split and separate the wick at each end to ensure the liquid can wick properly.

I have had no issues with leaks from this tank and can thoroughly recommend it just for the RBA alone! I also have Plume Veil clone and the vaping experience is much better from the subtank mini.
