I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that.

I was going to post a 1 month update and saw the above... If you don't mind me asking cobalt327, could you post the details? Apart from battery life (more accurately the lack of it) mine seems to do all I expected and then some. One month plus and it's yet to do anything odd or unwanted, but my experiences do not a trend make. I have seen elsewhere that the 510 is often too shallow or too low (like mine is) and I have found that the build is extremely critical or the temp control is wonky. I am planning to buy another when they get restocked at my preferred vendor, but if there are issues I would be very grateful to know about them. Do you think yours is a later version or has it been "on the shelf" at your vendor for a while?

Cheers.

Hi TN, no probs w/my 510 so far. I'll post my thoughts in a "pro and con' type list. If you have any comments or questions- or complaints for that matter- please feel free to air them!

PROS
  • Spring loaded 510 is good quality, has enough tension
  • Supports Ni, Ti and SS
  • TCR is adjustable
  • Buck and boost
  • Bright display
  • Supports single or dual coil builds
  • Very good build quality- no hot glue, wiring neat, soldered correctly, decent gauge wire used
  • Easy to adjust temp in TC or watts in Power modes
  • Easy battery swap
  • Looks good
  • Comes in a nice wood box
  • 12 second inhale cut-off

CONS
  • TC temperatures are inaccurate- always less than displayed
  • No updatable firmware
  • No user TCR presets
  • No stealth mode
  • Small screen display
  • Short battery run time
  • All buttons rattle
  • Menu uses indistinct pictographs, not intuitive
  • Does not feel good in hand, side of mod opposite controls has sharp radii and it’s 28mm thick as opposed to 22-23mm for many mods
  • Wood finish not perfect
  • No onboard charging
  • No actual battery voltage

WASH
  • No “formal” resistance lock but can adjust coil initial resistance +/- 0.05Ω, this value will then remain (as far as I can tell)
  • No wattage adjustment in TC mode, replaced by “Soft”, “Medium” and “Hard” ramp up

Great list! Pretty much a comprehensive guide that upon seeing very much matches with my 1+ month-long experience with it. One thing I might add about the initial resistance setting... Mine will use the entered value unless/until the mod is left alone long enough to go into hibernation, then it always reverts to whatever it senses the actual coil res is. (Consistently ~.2Ω higher than my rx, build tester and multimeter which all read within .02Ω of each other)

Plus, I find I have to be darn near perfect with the build or the temp control changes as the resistance rises with regular vaping. With a merely adequate coil it starts good, but the vape cools and weakens as the atty retains more heat. If the coil is perfect and wick not falling behind the chip seems to handle things very well and the vape is consistent regardless of whether cloud chasing or toodle tootle-puffing. Using Ti wire of course with my own bizarre coil-building method that nobody else approves of. :thumb: No idea how SS performance is, yet.

For now I only have my RX200 to compare with, but the TB75 temp seems to need to be set a bit higher to get the same performance from the same atty/build, but there are a number of other variables that affect that too, not least being 3 batteries vs 1. However the variance is consistent so a fella can just adjust accordingly I reckon. Again these are just my impressions based on slightly more than one month with the device and zero previous TC experience.

I really appreciate that list! As you stated the price and looks make the negatives pale a lot, but I feel a lot less anxious about buying another now. It's a big help to get input from somebody who is well versed in the TC craft.

Thanks for the input re the initial resistance setting- I will be sure to see if mine does the same thing. I have been trying a lot of different settings so there's a good chance I didn't notice it reverting back to the actual coil resistance after hibernating.

All in all I have been able to get a satisfying vape from it, w/o needing to jump through any flaming hoops. I use initial resistance to get the vape good at around 400 degrees F then I use the temperatures setting to fine tune if needed. I have left the TCR for Ni200 at the default setting of 600 but I changed the SS setting to 92 to match my 316L wire; default was for 304 (105 IIRC). Haven't used Ti yet to know how it'll work.

It's a good thing the treestump has adjustable TCR- I've now had to up the Ni setting to 650 from the default setting of 600. And the Soft/Med/Hard settings are superfluous at the temps and resistances I have used so far. Also too bad the Menu setup is so poorly executed. Gives me a whole new appreciation for my VTC Mini!

The initial resistance (IR) seems to not change after manually setting it, even after sitting unused overnight. I have found no way to revert back to letting the mod read the atty resistance once the IR has been manually set. That is, other than manually setting the IR lower than the actual resistance, then removing and reinstalling the atty. Then it'll ask "New/Same". Selecting "New" lets the mod read the actual atty resistance.

There doesn't seem to be a lot of these in the wild, at least nothing like how the VTC Mini caught on. I know I was leery of Smok regarding TC- their M80 was a total TC fail. But their latest offerings at least work. And the treestump will soon be an excellent mod- just as soon as it's given a firmware tweak via the USB.:thumb:

Wait- :(:grr::cry: haha Still can't imagine why this doesn't have updateable FW- like the xcube. I guess they didn't want to put a hole through the nice zebrawood enclosure... o_O
