Hey guys,

So I just bought the Smok tfv8 baby and had a great first 24 hours using the 0.4ohm coil at around 55W.

However I just tried to fire it up and my cool fire IV TV 100 is giving me the message "shorted" whenever I try to fire it up.

Switched tanks to me Aspire and it worked fine so assuming it's the tank.

Any idea what I'm doing wrong? What's gone wrong? Is this a common issue with the Smok tfv8 baby tank and coils, or is it something I've done?

Thanks in advance

I'm thinking along the same lines as @Hitmetwice, that the 510 pin is getting squashed down on your mod. IIRC the 510 threading on all the TFV8's have long-ish threading (wouldnt it be great if 510's all had a standard length).

You could try screwing just the base of the tank on the mod - if the result is the same then you've caught your gremlin.

That happened to me yesterday with the baby, mod wouldn't recognize it. The tank was working fine until I had disassembled the tank to change coils and wash the glass and tip. I reassembled and refilled the tank but must have not tightened everything down well enough. The problem was liquid seeped onto the bottom of the coil threads where the contacts are.

I siphoned off the liquid, disassembled again and carefully cleaned everything with alcohol, particularly the base contacts, let it dry and reassembled. I placed it onto the mod and checked my screen before refilling this time and all was good to go. hth

So I threw on a different coil, and it seemed to work fine, but the other coil still has the same issue, can I assume it's fried?

I wouldnt have thought its fryed, not at 55watts. Have you screwed just the base on the mod, with no coil in it? It should indicate no tank is attached (because the mod detects the coil not the tank).

In any of these atomizers, the center pin of the atomizers 510 connector (positive connection) needs to protrude out slightly from the threaded part that actually screws into your mod (negative connection).

If the center pin does not stick out slightly, there is a good chance that there will be a short.

Look at the photo below ... If the center pin (green arrow) is not protruding out slightly, you will need to remove that center pin and the plastic insulator it slides into. Then get a file or a Dremel and slightly grind down the outer part of the 510 connector (red arrow).

Once this is done, clean and reinstall the plastic insulator and center pin. The center pin should now slick out slightly like in the photo below ... don't grind too much !

Grind it down??????? You kidding????? Newbie joins forum an this is advice???? Somethings just make you say hmmmmm! LOL Pins on the Smok tanks are super long and likely going down to far and shorting it out. Unscrew tank and if it fires loose you will have to get a spacer for between mod and tank. Defiantly not the tank if it works on your Aspire mod. CHEERS!

I'm not kidding at all ... What's wrong with my advice?

Hey, if his 510 center pin already protrudes out slightly, he has other problems. I just suggested that he check his atomizer to see if that is in fact the problem ... and if it is, I gave him the fix.

Why do you have a problem with that?
