► SMOK RPM 5 & RPM 5 PRO; First impressions:
The RPM family has steadily expanded from the original RPM 40, then to RPM 80, RPM 80 Pro, RPM Lite, RPM 160, RPM 2, RPM 2S and then RPM 4.
Smok RPM 5 and RPM 5 Pro are two new pod kits that are similar to each other, but have a couple of differences ... The main difference between RPM 5 and RPM 5 Pro is the battery. The RPM 5 has a 2000mAh internal battery while the RPM 5 Pro uses a single 18650 battery which is not included.

Both devices have a USB Type-C port that charges up to a speed of 1.4A. They take advantage of the same variable power output of 5-80W (0.8-4V). The cartridge fills comfortably from the top and has a maximum capacity of 6.5 ml, supplied with two new Mesh Coil RPM 3 to satisfy fans of the DL vape.

RPM 5 and RPM 5 Pro, are at first glance full of notable improvements. The aesthetics and utility as a whole seem to be spot on, the style is graceful with a good degree of finish. Both Mods appear gracefully designed to be portable and durable. The edges are rounded and offer an elegant look with a soft grip.

    Smok-RPM-5-RPM-5-PRO-9.jpg

► SMOK RPM 5 & RPM 5 PRO share the same screen with color display, the display has a nice brightness and the fonts are clearly visible. The fire key is square in shape and concave in the center to convey a perfect tactile feeling to the fingertips. The "+ and -" adjustment buttons are located at the bottom above a rocker. At the top there is a beautiful chrome and metallic "SMOK" embossed writing. All this is surrounded by the decorative element which can vary in color and material according to the choice.

The same metallic "SMOK" writing that we saw before is present on the back of the mod but it is arranged vertically and is much larger and more conspicuous than the one found on the front area. At the top there is the AFC control system, it is a selector with a knob to open the two side ways of the air flow.

    Smok-RPM-5-RPM-5-PRO-10.jpg

► SMOK RPM 5 & RPM 5 PRO of this test are the "Beige White Leather" and "Gray Leather" versions and are part of an incredible and vast choice of colors. The imitation leather decoration has a soft texture and in the side profile of the Mod has a particular notched texture. At the top towards the cartridge there are the slots (1 x side) for the passage of the air which are rather large and fully adjustable in their degree of opening / closing.

    Smok-RPM-5-RPM-5-PRO-11.jpg

► SMOK RPM 5 & RPM 5 PRO use the same compartment / pod which is attached to the mod via 4 French screws. The metal bottom provides the magnetic attraction of the cartridge and in the center are the two contact pins both spring loaded and gold / plated.

    Smok-RPM-5-RPM-5-PRO-12.jpg

► SMOK RPM 5 & RPM 5 PRO use a rather wide base to stand up well. RPM 5 also has a rubberized profile around the base which makes it very silent when resting on the table. RPM 5 PRO, on the other hand, has a metal door controlled by a sliding type opening button. Once the door of RPM 5 PRO has been opened, it is possible to insert an external 18650 battery.

    Smok-RPM-5-RPM-5-PRO-13.jpg

    Smok-RPM-5-RPM-5-PRO-14.jpg

► SMOK RPM 5 & RPM 5 PRO share the same cartridge made of PCTG with an e-liquid capacity up to 6.5ml. The top cap is of the sliding type with an arrow indicating the opening direction. The filling hole is large enough and is protected by a one-way silicone membrane. The fixed type drip-tip hinders the filling phases a little with the larger dispensers that have short tips.

The coils are inserted from the bottom into the cartridge and are blocked by a red mobile lever (Child Proof). Before extracting the coil to replace the coil you must first move this lever to the side.

    Smok-RPM-5-RPM-5-PRO-15.jpg

    Smok-RPM-5-RPM-5-PRO-16.jpg

    ► SMOK RPM 5 & RPM 5 PRO; Coil RPM 3 Included:

    • RPM 3 Meshed Coil from 0.15Ω Range From 40 to 80W:

This resistance already from 40W works very well, however by going to 50W it fully satisfies me both with AFC completely open and with AFC slightly closed to obtain warmer vapor. By increasing the power it becomes mandatory to keep the airflow wide open otherwise the heat could become excessive, so I would say that 50W (for me) is more than enough also because I like to vary the airflow and I don't want problems. Aroma and clouds are present in abundance and with little condensation. The puff is not very noisy and I did not notice any spitting phenomena

    • 0.23Ω RPM 3 Meshed Coil Range From 20 to 45W:
With this resistance and with my creamy liquid I got good performances already starting from 25W and with AFC almost all closed. Is 25W really enough to get big clouds? The answer is absolutely yes! Just open the airflow a little and the Smok coil refutes all the theories they say; many watts to get big clouds. An excellent resistance really because it absorbs relatively little energy and if it is installed on RPM 5 with integrated battery it will guarantee you a great autonomy before recharging. The Drip Tip is very wide and is of the fixed type and this is perhaps the only limitation. If with the 0.15Ω resistance the Drip Tip could be perfect, it is not fully so with this 0.23Ω Meshed Coil that can get great performance even in RDL at low wattages, so to use this coil well even at 20W it would have been better be able to change the Drip Tip with a narrower one.

    Smok-RPM-5-RPM-5-PRO-17.jpg

► SMOK RPM 5 & RPM 5 PRO; Operation Guide:
The 0.96-inch screen uses larger fonts to display basic information more clearly.
The screen shows all the information useful for vaping such as:
    • Graphic level and percentage of remaining battery charge
    • Lock / unlock display
    • Wattage
    • Volt
    • Ohm of the Coil
    • Duration of the last puff
    • Total number of puffs

•• To turn the mod on / off, click five consecutive clicks on the Fire button
•• Click Up or Down to change the Wattage from 1 to 80W, the increase / decrease is 1W at a time.
•• To completely lock / unlock the Mod, press the fire button 3 times.
•• To lock / unlock the wattage press the up / down buttons simultaneously.
•• To choose one of the five background colors, press the Up / Fire buttons at the same time, even when the screen is locked.
•• To cancel the total number of puffs, press the Down / Fire buttons at the same time, to confirm select yes / no and click the choice with the Fire button.

    Smok-RPM-5-RPM-5-PRO-18.jpg

► SMOK RPM 5 & RPM 5 PRO; Batteries and Charging:
Both kits are equipped with a USB type C port and during the charging phase they show the remaining time, so the 5 PRO version is also equipped with a USB charging cable, but as in all Mods equipped with external batteries I always recommend use an external charger.

During my tests with the 2,000mAh built-in battery RPM 5 I was able to do 254 Puffs at constant 30W and 175 Puffs at constant 50W, all of which seems like a very good result to me. The charging speed of 1.4A allows a total time of about 120 minutes to be obtained. With RPM 5 PRO the number of Puffs that can be obtained depends on the type of 18650 battery you will use.

    Smok-RPM-5-RPM-5-PRO-19.jpg

► SMOK RPM 5 & RPM 5 PRO; Final conclusions:
I really feel like congratulating Smok because it has managed to churn out two new "All In One" kits with a truly excellent degree of finish, impeccable aesthetics and great ergonomics. The new RPM 3 coils live up to the best of the competition and I believe they are also quite long-lived. The cartridge contains a lot of e-liquid and aside from the non-replaceable Drip Tip (pity) it offers some interesting options such as; the refill from the top and the child proof system of the coil. The chipset manages the charge of both Mods well, but in particular of the integrated RPM 5 cell. The large number of Puffs I have obtained is of considerable impact (you have read the data). The chip only works in power mode, TC, Smart detection and other functions are missing. However we are talking about cheap "All In One" devices and this can be forgiven. Everything else is really good RPM 5 & RPM 5 PRO are attractive, easy to use and deliver great RDL / DL performance to the demanding "cloud chasers".

Thanks to Smok for sending me these samples for review.
