Hello and welcome to my review of the smok RPM 100 Kit that's a wattage only device with a maximum power output of 100 watts and uses a replaceable 21700 battery or 18650 with a supplied 18650 battery adapter. smok also has a 3000mAh internal battery version of the RPM 100 called the RPM 85 that has the same features as the 100 except it's maximum power output is 85 watts and it's shorter, I'll leave some information on the RPM 85 in the review as well in case your interested in it. Lets get started.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS


Packaging of the RPM100 is simple and efficient just like the device with a box shell housing a slide out inner compartment with pre formed cutouts holding all the component pieces that are the charge cord, 2nd 0.23Ω mesh coil, RPM100 device with pod attached and 18650 battery adapter pre installed. Your paper information of the user manual for the RPM100 and RPM85, warranty card and safety warnings pamphlet all sitting on top of the gear.

The first thing I noticed was how attractive the device was having a diamond pattern outlined in White covering a very deep matte Blue color that covers spine, sides and a small portion of the top and bottom of the front of the device, the design kind of reminds me of lizard scales in a way.


RPM100 is outlined in chrome on one side of the device with the other side and spine being bare of any branding. There is a protective plastic film that is placed on the spine you could remove of keep on for protection of the paint finish. There is also a protective plastic film covering the display screen, I always leave them on for as long as I can to avoid scratches when pocket carrying.

The RPM100 ships with the 18650 battery adapter pre installed so if you plan on using a 21700 battery it needs to be removed. Highly visible positive polarity is marked inside the battery tube with a Red + symbol and on the bottom battery door a - minus symbol is displayed. The battery door is your typical bottom styled one but seems to be strong, I haven't had any accidental openings of it while testing.

Connection of the 6ml pod to the RPM100 is done using 2 very strong magnets placed on each side of the pod with the coil between them. There is a child safety device as Smok says that locks the coil in place when it's fully seated in the pod and must be opened to change out a new coil, this Red lock has a small piece that slides over the coil locking it in place.

The RPM100 offers top fill by way of a sliding top cap a has a self sealing fill port membrane we are seeing more manufacturers using because it works so well. The drip tip is proprietary and although comfortable can make filling the pod with 100ml bottles a challenge because it prevents the bottle tip from going into the fill port fully, you must be alert when filling with 100ml bottles not to cause a mess.

There is fully adjustable airflow using 2 airflow slots located 180° from each other on the top of the device, this control ring spins freely having no stopping points but the tension is good and it stays where you put it. I like the aggressive teeth on the control dial adding to the RPM100 appearance.

The RPM100 is just the right size feeling like a solid device and hand fitment is good either finger firing or thumb firing, it isn't slippery or slidey when in the hand. controls are placed well for easy access and can be adjusted one handed. The display screen is bright and vibrant with color of which there are 6 color choices to choose from with 2 color shades of green.

The menu is very easy to navigate being a wattage only device and having no brightness control because the display screen is plenty bright, also the font size is just right meaning no squinting.

The display screen offers plenty of information and is well laid out with a bight colorful screen, this is how I wish more devices display screens looked, plus there is no eye strain. Below is the layout of the display screen from top to bottom/left to right.

FINAL IMPRESSIONS


My time using the RPM100 was a good one having 0 issues with the device or pod. If the drip tip was removable the pod would have no issues but because it's not you must be careful filling with a 100ml juice bottle, a couple times I had a mess start to arise from not being careful but if you fill slowly and keep a watchful eye there should be no problem.

This is one of the strongest set of magnets on a pod mod I've encountered, while pocket carrying I had no separation of pod from device as sometimes happens with these types of devices.

The supplied coils were good at producing average to slightly above average in the flavor department. I like a pretty warm vape and the 0.1Ω mesh coil did a nice job at the minimum setting of wattage, there is a wide range of wattage ( 40WATTS ) but my sweet spot was between 40-48 watts. Vapor production was very good clouding up a room in no time.

The 0.23Ω mesh coil needed to be driven to it's max for my taste but proved to perform well. The RPM100's airflow fully opened up is very airy too airy for my taste instead it performed great at the halfway closed position with a average noise level. Airflow is smooth at setting on the control dial.

We now come to the RPM100 Mod itself which is a great device being a wattage only one for me because I don't vape in TC and having a simple menu is a bonus, I really hope a device that has the same great look but with a 510 connection will be released.

Overall I will say the RPM100 has proved to be a great device and is a perfect starter kit for a new vaper so I recommend it to all.
