    Aesthetic Impact:
Compared to Thallo which with its circular cartridge had a Drag style appearance, the new IPX 80 device differs by using a cartridge of a different shape that makes this new Mod more compact. IPX 80 with real metal protection bezel seems to be more inspired by Aegis IP67 style even improving it. I love this new Smok course, lately these Kits are really sturdy, beautiful and well cared for. Smok Scar P3 / P5 is my favorite IP67 device, however I have to say that IPX 80 is technically better, thanks mainly to some further developments, such as the multi-adjustable and well-calibrated dual AFC system derived from the Nord 4 Mod Pod.

    First Impressions:

Difficult to find a device with a large 3,000mAh battery with equally small dimensions and with a weight of only 130g, this is enough to make the IPX 80 a nice little toy that is not at all demanding to carry. The handle is shaped to adhere perfectly to the palm of the hand thanks to the soft curves and the padded leather insert. Together with the soft rubber these expertly mixed materials give a truly exceptional tactile feedback.
The burnished steel rear grille gives a strong impression of structural strength to the Mod.

Mod Pod IPX 80 how it is made:

At the front we find the screen immersed in soft rubber, protected on the side by a sturdy burnished metal frame, inside the screen there are the three classic Smok adjustment buttons always easily accessible, under the screen we also find the beautiful 0.96 color display ".
The Smok colored display is nothing new but it is always pleasant to be able to read it without difficulty thanks to its great brightness and enlarged characters. Furthermore, on the display you can select 6 pleasant background colors and obtain the following info: graphic level and percentage of remaining charge, estimated time during the charging phase, set power, lock / unlock symbol, coil value, volts, total number of puff, duration of the last puff.

The rear part has a design aesthetically inspired by the Aegis style, the armor recalls it but is made of metal and not plastic (I prefer this one). On the IPX 80 the Drag style also stands out, with the leather or imitation leather insert, the double stitching and the Smok writing make this successful mix sporty and captivating.

IPX 80 is laterally protected by the metal protrusions of the front and rear armor, a really solid armor that protects the Mod from crushing or the most violent impacts, the rubberized surface on one side bears the words "IPX 80".
At the top you can see the two air adjustment knobs that are screwed to the frame by means of a tamper-proof screw, the "+" and "-" symbols are marked on the rotating part to indicate the desired direction of rotation. The two knobs are probably the most delicate part of the IPX 80 as they are made of plastic material, however I think that to damage the knobs you need a noticeable bump and not a simple fall to the ground.
The AFC adjustment at maximum aperture allows a very airy type of Puff, in line with that of the most extreme cloud devices, while the closing adjustment allows you to obtain a good compromise for the Puff MTL. Surely IPX 80 through its double AFC system and different combinations of coils allows different styles of vaping.

The compartment / pod houses in a raised position four powerful round-shaped magnets, in the center are the two spring-loaded and gold-plated contact pins.
The entire surface is easily accessible during use to be dried from any condensation.

The bottom of the IPX 80 as well as on the Scar P3 / P5 has no vent for the cell, simply between the frame joints and the rubber, the air comes out but no water or liquid enters, don't ask me how this is possible!

The USB-C socket has a rubber cap that protects it from any infiltration of liquid and dust.

IPX 80 RPM 2 cartridge and 2 RPM coil:
All exceptional, what I liked least is the fixed drip-tip with duckbill design ... Bringing a round drip-tip to your mouth offers more possibilities to grip the Mod in the correct way. I would definitely have preferred a cartridge similar to that of Scar P3 / P5 with round drip-tip and top refill.
The Pod RPM 2 of IPX 80 can hold up to 5.5ml of liquid and the refill is of a fairly easy lateral type, on the sides the cartridge is transparent and the visibility of the liquid is good.
The coils are inserted from below with the “Press And Pull” method.

    - Note: Two different RPM2 coils are provided in the IPX 80 kit, at the moment they are the only two available, but the range of RPM2 coils will certainly be expanded by SMOK.
    - Note: In order to use the numerous RPM series coils on the IPX 80, a specific RPM cartridge can be purchased separately.

How Smok IPX 80 Kit works:
The latest version of the Chipset compared to previous models slightly varies the graphics on the display, while leaving the sufficient level of functions and excellent safety protections substantially unchanged.

    Battery and charging:
IPX 80 through the USB Type C port is able to recharge the built-in 3,000mAh battery at a speed of 1.4A, the remaining time is shown on the display. IPX 80 takes about 120 minutes for a full charge cycle.

During the test I was able to do 656 Puff at 12W using the 0.6Ω coil. With the Mesh Coil from 0.16Ω to 25W the result was 360 puffs, with the same coil but this time at 40W I got 265 puffs.
It seems to me a very good result, it is reasonable to think that with this device we can cover the whole day.

Smok IPX 80 Pod Mod 19.jpg

    Vaping test:

    0.16Ω Mesh Coil RPM 2 (25-50W)
The 0.16Ω RPM2 Mesh previously tested on SCAR P3 and P5 devices is a coil with a really flexible use and is incredibly able to work perfectly at 20W, Magic of the Mesh!
In fact, in the Scar P3 review I found myself by mistake vaping at 20W with this coil and I did it for a long time before I realized it.

With IPX 80 respecting the Best of 40W that Smok indicates I obtained an excellent behavior, the vapor soon takes on the appearance of large dense clouds, the best performance I obtained with the slots completely open. Aromatically, the best result is obtained by closing the buttonholes about halfway with a medium-open type of DTL puff but with an aromatic yield in my opinion very good even by lowering the 25W power to the advantage of a longer battery life.

In every situation the puffs are smooth and velvety, the steam hardly gets hot. This systeml can generate some condensation especially when using 50/50 liquids, while with 70/30 liquids the formation of condensation is acceptable.

    0.6Ω MTL RPM 2 Coil (12-25W)
This Coil was introduced for the "Thallo" devices, it is a double wire resistor that can be used already starting from 12W, with this power and with the air-flow completely closed the Puff is of the MTL type satisfactory but not too narrow, the coil feeds well and the steam never gets too hot. To achieve even better results in MTL however, a resistance of at least 1.0Ω would be needed, however, considering that IPX 80 is a device also suitable for the "Cloud" the overall result is really satisfactory.
    * This 0.6Ω coil on the IPX 80 device naturally performs better in MTL than Smok Mod previous ones, thanks to the higher accuracy of the adjustable dual AFC.

    To conclude:

The IPX 80 Kit integrates a chipset that is simple to manage, reliable and reactive (0.001S) and there are multiple protections to ensure a safe and reliable vape.
The built-in 3000mAh battery coupled with the 1.4A speed USB Type-C fast charging port increases the vaping time and reduces waiting times.
I really liked the aromatic yield in DL and I appreciated the improvement of the AFC system with the 0.6Ω MTL coil.

Smok IPX 80 could be a very welcome system for those who need a universal device, shockproof, waterproof and dustproof to be used in the workplace or in leisure time.
The Smok IPX 80 Kit in addition to being good-looking, performing and comfortable, also works very well, so I feel I can recommend it.

Thanks to Mengli Zhang from Smok for sending me IPX 80 for the review:
