It's a hit and miss I guess with the paint on alien, I got lucky thought. My 9 month old smok (silver) alien haven't lost any paint only got some small bumps on the bottom, text also gone under mod and lost tiny amount of colors on up/down buttons.

Mine is also reading ohm accurate, don't have the original tank, only use RTA, RDTA and RDA attys with mine and also only build my own coils.

The biggest issue with alien that I think is that it doesn't read new atty in standby mode if you switch atty.

Simple solution is press the fire bar after removing the atty, get the no atomizer response, mount another tank and you'll always get the new coil yes/no option. Even if it's the same tank.

Jumping in thread... I love the Alien 220w for ease of use and form. Except I hate that 2 of them crapped out within a couple months.
The new one has held up for a month now...
I like the ease of read out, all the info on screen is awesome.

My DNA 75 Lava Box is tiny text and impossible to read in daylight!!! The 200 Lava Box is a little better because text is larger. But the 75 is a deal breaker; i still use it all the time but have to make sure its set if I go out of the house with it, and even inside I can hardly make out the Ohms etc without a magnifying glass.

How is the screen brightness outside? Do you use TC mode on yours? I'm thinking of getting this mod but I've seen some scary comments about TC mode with SS316 coils :(

The screen in bright sun is about as good as other mods.

I vape SS316L coils on mine. It's fine in wattage mode, but as described below it doesn't go down low enough in wattage for my needs vaping in TC mode at 10W. If you are a higher wattage vaper in TC mode you will find it's good in the higher ranges where you have some latitude to adjust the wattage up and down.

If you decide to get an Alien, do the V1.3.2 update. It fixes the TC mode issues. That said, if you are a MTL vaper who vapes at 10W it may still be a little heavy for you. In TC mode, wattage only goes down to 15W. In power mode wattage goes down to 6W. For a 10W vaper like me that's a little on the warm side. When you set the temperature level down it will cycle on and off to maintain temp at 15W in TC mode.

I like the Alien because it gives me 2 days vaping time on a pair of VTC6's or a couple of Samsung 30Q's vapingat 10W. That's the part the I like. The vape is fine in wattage mode for a Tootle Puffer like me because it goes down to an accurate 10W level in wattage mode (wattage minimum is 6W in power mode). You'd think that they'd reprogram the firmware to allow 10W in TC mode. Go figure. I they did it would be my favorite mod next to the iStick Pico 75.

If you vape at 15W or higher in TC it's a great mod. Do the V1.3.2 update if it isn't already at that level when you buy it. The firmware level is displayed on the startup screen when you turn it on.

In my opinion the Alien is terrible at TC. Even if you change the TCR settings to get a good vape it won't last very long. After a half tank or so it will get all screwy.
Mine has been ok. May I ask what firmware yours is and if you make your own coils. I ask because slot of the "lower cost" mods seem to have issues for me at below a .2 build.
Just asking more for comparison.
Lately I have done wattage more but.......

I don't know the exact # but it's the most recent version. I do make my own coils as well as use s few different pre-made coils. My builds range from 0.15 to 0.5 and they all perform the same on the Alien. It's just very inconsistent. I can put the same coils on my Coolfire TC100 or Aspire Speeder and get good results but the Alien always ends up going to .....

For me TC works great but I'm now days almost only MTL vape, run spaced micro coils either 26awg ss316l at 0.5 ohm (190-210°C@21w) or 28awg ss316l at around 0.8-0.9 ohm (190-210°C@16w).
For me TC works better on my alien then on both my other mod joyetech cuboid and eleaf istick pico 25 either with stock firmware or Arctic Fox.
