No, my manual didnt mention that at all so even though others were mentioning it I opted to just plug it up first. As soon as I plugged my mod to my computer it prompted me on if i wanted to charge or update, I chose update and proceeded accordingly.

If I remember correctly the December file is the firmware update and the November file is the last update to the HM Chip tool.
Gotcha,thank you

Ive updated mine and the light issue is resolved. Also got the screen light to shut off after 10 secs instead of default 20. I do recommend watching the video also. I never would have been able to do it without it(but I'm not a computer genius either...lol)
Hi Brian, anyway you could help me with step by step on how you did your update please? The reason I ask is that I hear you have to open the hm file then the rsq update? It sounds confusing to me and would not want to turn mine into a brick :-/ am sure others would benifit from the instructions as well,if you can't do it I understand but would greatly appreciate it if you could, thanks in advance bud :thumb::banana:

I am not trying to be rude but did you follow the other links I provided? The one had step by step instructions on how to update the firmware and the other, while in a different language, was a video of someone actually performing the update. If you have read them, where are you getting confused. I get that neither link I provided before was "ideal" but I think in tandem they answer most if not all questions. If the below still does not answer your questions please provide a more detailed response on where you are getting confused.

    1) Download both the RSQ Update file and the software, HM Chip Tools v3.2.
    2) Unzip the HM Chip Tools folder
    3) Run the executable file (.exe file) within the HM Chip Tools (starts around 33 seconds in the video). This will install the necessary software on your computer so you can update the firmware.
    4) Connect your RSQ via USB to your computer and place into link mode. NOTE: There have been multiple reports on how to do this and I would suggest hooking up your mod to determine. Some are saying you need to take out the battery and hold the up and down button simultaneously. I did not have to do that. My manual just stated to hook it up to my computer and the mod would prompt me on whether I wanted to charge or link. I connected it and chose link.
    5) At the 40 second mark of the video they start the process to show how you upload/open the firmware upgrade, the other file that you downloaded, within the HM Chip Tools Software. Looking at the HM Chip Tools Software, you click the "Open" button in the top left hand corner and point it to the firmware update file.
    6) Click "Refresh" in the HM Chip Tools Software, it will update your firmware.

Review the prior instructions and the video that should answer all of your questions. Within the Software is where you can update all of your other settings as well. That is displayed in the video from about the 1 minute mark on.

For step #2, download and install 7zip which is a free zip utility tool if you don't already have something installed already.

I did remove the battery when updating mine but can't recall if I was holding a button combination or not. I did select update of course.

Please, if you are still not comfortable after reading the instructions above, it is not worth updating to the newer version just to keep the light settings after a battery swap. This is a great device and I would hate to see it get bricked.

    Best of luck!

You arent offending me in the slightest I was just getting confused on where you were getting stuck. I totally understand where not everyone may be technologically savvy. I was just confused as you were asking for step by step instructions and they had been previously provided. Regardless, to your question about pointing to the firmware update file, review the video it may provide the necessary clarification. At roughly the 40 second mark of the video they show the process to show where they are "opening" the firmware update file within the software. In your software, in the upper left hand corner it will say "open". When you click "open", it will pull up a window where by you need to chose a file. You want to chose the RSQ Firmware Update file. You are basically telling the Software this is the file I want you to utilize when updating my RSQ. To perform functions like changing your screen on time, you would complete that directly in the Software.

The HM file is your software. It is what you are implementing all of these changes through while the RSQ Update is the file that is specific to your RSQ firmware upgrade. The HM file puts the software on your computer. Once you install it you dont need to do anything else with that specific download. Once you have installed and opened the software is when you will utilize the RSQ update file to update the firmware for your mod. The HM Software would be utilized for the whole suite of HotCig mods to change settings. The RSQ file is specific to just the RSQ mod and to be utilized to take corrective action on the firmware for just the RSQ.
