Media account: E-cigarettes have up to 10 times more carcinogens than regular smokes, say Japanese researchers - Regional | The Star Online

Dr. Farsalinos' response: E-cigarette aerosol contains 6 times LESS formaldehyde than tobacco cigarette smoke

From the sources above, I would venture to guess they melted down an unfilled clearo to get those levels. The other devices contained 6 times less formaldehyde than cigarettes. I think they were all prefilled carto cigalike type devices. So, when they tested the "high power new-generation" device, I would bet they did not add any eliquid just to get the worst numbers possible.

Side note: the use of a standard smoking machine may seriously skew vaping results. The draw is totally different. An experienced user can use draw pressure to control coil temperature.

When I see studies like this it makes me think of something I have heard over my lifetime, you can find anything if you look hard enough. What I would like to know is if the people who conducted this study were predisposed to finding those results before they even began.

I agree with what you said about draw pressure, when I dry burn my coils as I start to blow air across them they barely turn red. Conversely when I am taking a draw I imagine the same is happening the coils are heating but the air drawn across them keeps them from reaching super high temps. Just my humble opinion.

ANTZ Testing Report:

We measured the levels of Formaldehyde Emitted by a Next Generation E-Cigarette (Cigarettes are bad for you, did you know? And since e-cigarette has "cigarette" in it's name and an extra letter "e" it must be even worse) when vaping a Georgia Pacific Resins e-juice* using a Personal Vaporizer** was 10 times the amount found in smoking regular cigarettes.

*- Ejuice used was a 60% solution of Urea-Formaldehyde and water

**- Vaporizer used was a 18 coil 0.0000001 ohm Toastmaster 4 slice toaster.

My favorite version of the scientific method:
Design your experiment to show your hypothesis is false!

If the experiment fails, the hypothesis might be true.

These types of studies are NOT science, just because they were preformed by scientists using scientific equipment. A standard already exists.
