I don't heat mine before building either. *shrug* Works for me - I use 32g or 30g, 30g preferred. I always fire it on the atty and pinch with tweezers a couple times and make any other adjustments I may need. I believe the preheating makes the thicker wire easier to wrap.

Supe, love that intro! Really! More great vids and so nice of you to take the time to do this.

The only reason I do it is to burn off any residue (oils, etc.) that may be left on the wire from the manufacturing process. Maybe that the wire comes from the factory clean as a whistle but I'm a little OCD about such things.

This clean-burning $4 Ronson Jetlite Butane Torch lighter (and a can of lighter butane) is more than enough for even 26 AWG and a lot easier and safer than using a propane torch inside. It gets rid of the machining oil, even that which will wind up under the post screws, and makes wrapping tightly easier. As an aside, this is the best, most reliable cigar torch lighter I've ever owned and I've owned some expensive ones.

You got no worries if you dry burn a little before you wick and vape

That's what I have been doing. After I check impedence I get it to glow a few times before I wick.

Well, after watching your videos super_X, I went and pulled the trigger on a RM2. I'll retire my last HH.357 before it dies. That way I'll have a nice backup.

The blunt tip shorties came from a bulk purchase on the web. Couldn't find 17 ga at the usual suspect vape Vendors. The shorties ( 1/2" long barrel ) were also harder to find. Wizard labs has 16 ga normal length which work fine, I just wanted to try (and really like) the short barrel.

The cartotometer came from RTD vapor
