It was once said that the only stupid question is the one unasked, so I am asking:

What is the deal with pipettes? Being a total ...... here,re: pipettes, when the calculator says "drops" what are we talking about here?

Drops from a plastic E-juice bottle or drops from a pipette or are they the same? Or are we talking drops from a syringe? And if so with or without the needle, and once again does it matter in that situation?

Rather confusing, yet probably simple.

I am just trying to standardize my measurements.

And, I don't think I like pipettes. Their drops seem weak or something. I am hoping I didn't just blow my PPR (Pomegranate) batch.

Yup.
I think I blew it on the pomegranate.

Original formula called for 1.5 ml or 30 drops. I dropped 30 from a pipette.
Was too weak, so I just said screw it and added 1 ml.

Now it's like "where the hell did the flavor go?"

But I don't want to take the nic down with anymore dilution.

Well, poop.

Wish there was a way I could salvage this.

I try to avoid recipes that call for "drops" because there's no way to know what the heck kind of measurement system the writer was using.

If you want to use them to write your own recipes, measure out the drops/ml of whatever you're dropping from (drip out 3mls worth and average).

Sorry I can't be of more help, but there's no way of getting into the mind of whoever wrote a particular recipe.

Edit: Hah, ok, I reread your last post. 1.5ml or 30 drops. That person is assuming 20 drops = 1ml. All you need to do is measure out 3ml from your pipette, divide that by 3. That's your drops/ml. Then you will know how many drops/ml your pipette actually is.

But I'd really REALLY recommend you measure out 1.5ml with a syringe instead.

Bumping this because I really need some answers about this before I put together anymore juice.

Do "drops" differ from pipette/bottle dropper/syringe?

Is there another way to standardize measurement other than mls in a syringe?

Yes they differ by syringe/dropper. Absolutely. There is no standard.
There are beakers and graduated cylinders. I'm sure there are other things, but I've never had to venture that way.

"Au Contrere", that is indeed a help.

You tweaked me back into left brain from right brain. :D

It's just a matter of converting exact mls, which are precise into a chosen method of delivery; to which the chosen method (ie: a generic eyedropper) becomes the standard and then using those as your standard.
Anyway now it makes sense.

Two different hemispheres diametrically different yet perpetually synergizing with each other. Wow, neuroscience :)

Thanks, Adeline:)

Thanks, Gr3Scott! :)

different pipettes, droppers, syringes AND different liquids.. different drops per ml. Drops of VG from a pipette does not equal drops of PG from that pipette. We would ALL be better off if 20 wasn't the default drops per ml.

I totally forgot about this. In all of my wisdom.. :p Measure out your PG, VG, nic, and flavorings separately. They will most certainly be different.

Thanks glassmanoak! :)
