I got my first rba, an RSST. I built a micro coil and wicked it with cotton, hoping to do the auto-dripper thing. The cotton gave my juice a really funky taste, but after closely inspecting the bags my organic cotton balls came in, it says they were whitened with hydrogen peroxide... ...? Is that normal, or is that whats giving me an awful flavor? Do I need to boil the cotton, or just go out and buy some different kind?

The first cotton wick I ever tried tasted horrible! But I don't think it was organic 100% cotton... since then I now use organic pure cotton, and I do not wash, or boil it before use and it's great straight away. I just make sure my hands are freshly washed before handling it ... just made a fresh build with cotton this evening, and I am vaping away.

i actually just bought some Walgreen's brand organic cotton balls and i says on the back Whitened with Peroxide. I definitely say boil em. It could of just been me but when i vaped without boiling i felt very light headed and nauseous. Also the taste was just awful. I just did a good 15 minutes, rinsed, then another 15 minutes and let it dry over night. All done with distilled water with good direction from Youtubes RIPtrippers.

A little tip with organic cotton balls. Be sure they're in a bag that's sealed, or in a box. Also look for the sterile type. The Walgreen's organic cotton balls are in a bag that has little holes in it so they can hang them on the product rack (of course this is the case where I live). I tried them a while back and they tasted like everything else in a walgreens. Also use as little cotton as possible. I couldn't get over the taste of the cotton and almost gave up on cotton before I realized that it's a "less is better" type of deal.

Oh yeah, my first attempt used some cotton balls of indeterminate origin I that had been rolling around in the bathroom since the 90's - that was a mistake. Pretty sure they were made from goat's :censored:.

I got some out of a new medicine bottle. Boiled it and it works great.
Still had a slight odd taste at first. I think that boiling again with fresh water would have helped.

That is not something I would do. I would never trust that whatever residue from the medicine was actually cleaned out of the cotton. Vaping medicine might not be a good thing.

I first tried cotton a few days ago and the flavor was flat out offensive... Almost rotten. Decided to try it again last night and the offensive taste went away after a few pulls... Now I kinda love it. lol...

Mine was like that too when I first went and looked. They also had some in a little bin so I grabbed those instead. Did the boiling not help? I'd think it would.

I bought Organic cotton from CVS, its also whitened with peroxide. I've used it as is and find like others have said that it starts out a little funky but it clears up after a bit of vaping. I think its worth it to just boil a batch and then store it in a air tight glass jar. That and washing your hands before touching it would be the purest method imo.
