Questions about Stainless Steel Wire.

Hi!
I have some question about using stainless steel for vaping.
I did try using the search engine to find answer but I have no luck.

1. Is stainless steel wire only for tc (or only for non tc)?

2. What type of stainless steel wire (316, 304, etc.) is suitable for vaping?

3. Most of the articles I found stated that stainless steel is the safest wire for vaping while the nickel is the worst (with more potential hazard). Do any of you have information to support/disprove that statement?

Stainless steel works both for tc and without, which makes it a really versatile choice. 316 is probably the most common, but in addition at least 304, 316l, 317, 317l, and 430 is used for vaping.

1. Stainless is OK for regular regulated vaping. Probable better in VW or VV than TC. Most TC mods are not stable enough to really TC stainless anyway. It's better for TC than Kanthal or Nichrome. Mainly because it is a little less resistant.

2. both 304 and 316 also seen 317 and 430

3. Not a clear cut thing, depends too much on other factors beyond the wire..... Sure if used improperly the statement might be true. But properly used so might the opposite.

304, 316, 317 and 430 are the commonly used ones.

Nope. We need real scientific data and so far I have seen zero interest in this topic from e-cig scientists. Dr. Farsilinos says he plans on doing wire studies, but he doesn't have the funding of a Harvard Medical School, etc.

The research so far that has actually scanned for metals in vapor has found them, but in small amounts that aren't a threat. The question is are these trace metals coming from the liquid, the tank, the coil or all combined? I would like to see studies focusing on the wire itself. There's none out there that I am aware of and so we are left having to extrapolate or guess based on other studies done for other industries.

So far all the published and peer reviewed GC/MS tests on vapor "toxins" have used standard clearomizers with either nichrome or kanthal coils. Since SS and Ti are popular now, we need data on those as well. With Ti, I would be interested in whether TiO2 can escape into the vapor stream and with SS I would be interested in how the wire oxidizes under vaping temps and whether that results in the metals leaching into the vape. We know, for instance, that SS cookware can leach metals into acidic foods (like tomato sauce) at much lower temperatures than what we vape at (and the increase seems to be almost linear with temperature). So, I would be interested to know how 304/316 SS wire holds up to 400-500F temps while soaked in ejuice (which might itself have a corrosive effect).

Yeah, that's asking a lot and probably wont ever happen. The FDA is too busy spending millions on research into whether kids are attracted to fruity vape flavors.

1. Both, as mentioned already

2. 316L is all we find here in Oz at our b&m stores and it seems the most common having been around the forums, most tc mods with a SS profile seem to use 316L. Any mod worth buying will or should have adjustable TCR to cope with ss types not natively programmed into their ss profile.

3. Nickel was my first and only tc wire before ss (I could never get Ti in the right gauge here). I believe ss is much safer, especially if youre a newbie like one i saw a few weeks ago who bought a high powered 200w mod, didnt read the manual and fired a nickel coil in normal vw/power mode...his coil went bye byes...he signed up on here to ask where it went :) So at least in that scenario nickel is unsafe, i wouldnt want a lungful of vaporised nickel. In tc uses a lot of people moved on to Ti because of perceived safety issues. I used it for ages, and quite liked it, but even i jumped to ss quickly when it came along and i got mods that supported it. Being as safe as possible is the key.

1. Not true, i have 2 mods that are stupidly stable and accurate when using ss (TreeBox and SX Mini M). I know many many people who have tc mods of all types, including the owner of my b&M who gave up on tc back in the nickel/titanium days but recently tried it again and actually made a point last time i saw him of the unbelievable stability of ss on his mods.....

No, the FDA is too busy getting paid off by the cigarette companies. thats my guess as to why they are trying to ban vaping. such bull..... same thing happens with the pharmaceutical companies/doctors...
