Hi,

I recently bought an aspire plato with comes with an icr battery. I'm sure here are familiar with this. Anyway I was putting the battery in it when noticed that I pushed it in to hard and a piece of the wrapper on top of it ripped. I have a photo attached. Is this battery still good to use?

I use Samsung 18650 25R batteries almost exclusively including a Plato. Here's a reliable source at a good price 18650 Samsung INR18650-25R R5 2500mAh (GREEN) High Discharge FLAT Top

They also sell battery wraps. :)

BTW, despite the advice to rewrap (and I am NOT encouraging you to use it unless you have to) that nick at the top is only exposing the insulator (the white disc on top) which is not like exposed bare metal which could result in a short and cause the unpleasant events associated with shorting out a high amp battery.

Thank you you all for your help. I'm not going to use the mod till I can get another battery. I'm not new to vaping, but I am to sub ohm and TC. Any suggestions would be helpful. It seems like most of the shops where I live, the people who work there have no knowledge on what their doing. So, any tips would be great.
Purchase any of the below recommended batteries by Battery Mooch. In the vast majority of cases, a true 20 amp continuous (CDR) IMR or INR battery from Lg, Samsung, or Sony will suffice. Only in rare cases will you actually need a 30 amp battery. Recommend purchasing from a reputable seller like:

* Side note: You don't really want to use an "ICR" chemistry battery. There are a few sub-classes of lithium-ion batteries: ICR, IMR, INR (hybrid), and Li-Po. ICR batteries are the only sub-class you don't want to use for a vaping device.

  • For those who want to learn the differences between IMR, IMR/hybrid, ICR, and LiPo batteries. What do those numbers and letters on batteries mean? What's an amp rating and why is it more important than the mAh rating when choosing a battery for vaping?

Thank you for the info. It was very helpful. I went to another local vape shop and bought the following:

2x LG 18650 HG2 3000 mAH Brown - I'm concerned with these batteries being fakes because they came with a white label attached to them. All the pics I've seen of these don't have these labels. I included a picture.

XTAR VC2 USB Charger - I just want to be sure that this charger is compatible with LG HG2?

Again thank you for your help.

That white label is usually applied by the reseller for shipping purposes for easier identification. It's actually quite common for batteries to be sold having these labels, and has absolutely nothing to do with the possibility of them being fakes.

A few months ago, there was a run of counterfeit Lg HG2 batteries that even fooled some reputable battery resellers. Counterfeit 18650 batteries are always a concern, and the counterfeiters are getting better and better all the time. Best solution for consumers is to purchase from reputable vendors who will either reimburse or replace known fakes.

There is a little piece of metal showing. It's not just the insulator. Do you know of any good vids on YouTube to watch for wrapping batteries?

Thx again for your help.

OK, so I can leave the white label on the battery? I don't need to peel it off? It's OK for it to be on there?

Thx again for your help.

If you need wraps, WWW.KidneyPuncher.com sells them 15 cents each, your choice and mix of colors.

18650 Battery Wraps - Assorted Colors

All you need to know about installing a wrap is that it needs to extend past the ends of the battery. I cut mine about about 3/8" longer than the battery and slide them on, leaving most of the excess at the positive end with about 1/8" overlap on the negative end. Just compare it with another battery for wrap length. Line it up, lay it on a counter, and hit it with a 1500 watt hair dryer until it shrinks in place. Roll it over as you heat to make sure the heat is distributed all around. It only takes about 10 seconds of heat and the job's done.

If you screw up, just nick it on the end with a knife, tear it off, and try again.

Another question. On my Plato I've noticed that the battery indicator drops when I hit the fire button. Why does it display like that and should I be concerned?

It's called voltage sag. When you put a load on a battery its voltage will drop based on its amperage capability, charge level, and the load your atomizer puts on it. Sounds like your indicator is working in real time. It should go back up slightly when you release the fire button. I'd call that normal if it returns to a point close to the original level when you release the fire button.

If you get low vape time, try some of the better performers in Mooch's battery tests and pick one with the longest graph at high amps. Below is a link to Mooch's blog. There are multiple links to battery tests for comparison. Spend some time on his blog and your battery knowledge will blossom.
