Question about Elementvapes and other sites that use age verification

Maybe I'm of an unpopular opinion that I had no issue taking a pic and uploading my DL for age verification the one time I was asked to do it. Here's my justification. It's a hell of a lot different from someone calling you out of the blue and asking for your personal information. I did my research ahead of time to know that the site that I was purchasing from was a legit, reputable, and highly used site. I went to THEIR site to place an order, so I was willing to make the concession for them to cover their legal liability, and if anything were to happen, I know I'm covered by my bank (the chosen payment method for said purchase) and I'd have a lot better chance of getting resolution from a well known and reputable site than I would from a less known source that may not do the required age verification to begin with. Just my two cents...

I've only been asked once for DL proof of identity, I emailed that I would not provide that and they replied I could instead give them the last four digits of my SS#. I replied that would not happen and emptied my cart.

If I recall at Element, the order/credit card was NOT processed until age verification succeeds. I ordered twice about 6 months apart, got the same message that I needed to submit my driver's license, etc. Never had to do anything to a credit card card to reverse a charge, etc. I would think most vendors would do it this way.

Does vapordna even do an active age verification? If so, you don't see it during checkout. I know for each order, you have to check both age and terms & conditions to submit the order. I think that's all there is to it. I've never had an issue with vapordna.

With MVS and MyVPro, you can visually see they do it, they ask for DOB, etc and show a passed result during checkout.

The only site I've ever had an issue with was Element vape. I don't even bother browsing the site there any more.

The way I look at it, is it's one thing to have a credit card number stolen.

It's a completely different issue to have multiple places have a copy of your DL, your SSN, etc. If that information gets stolen or leaked, it goes a far way towards identity theft. I don't trust places like this to securely store the information on their end. Who know who has access to it?

To put it in perspective, I renew my firearms carry license every 5 years in GA. Even on that application, the SSN is OPTIONAL. They try to pressure you to complete it, but I refuse since the state says it's optional. The fewer places my information is available, the safer it is.

I refuse because the technology is available to not need visual verification. Let them spent the money to update their system. If need be there is nothing gear related I would need that can't wait until China delivers.

If you are worried about running out of something just order ahead, and stock up and just order ahead!

FDA requires all vendors to check age.
I've only had a problem 2 years ago, and sent a copy of DL with lisc.# blocked, and photo blocked.
The only thing they got was name, address, age... no SS#
Maybe you should e-mail them with your concerns.
You won't be charged for product, if it's not sent.

There was a lot of discussion about the different verification systems after the "rule" went into effect. Blue Check got a lot of bah humbugs, but I must say that once done, (no photo required), and I've had no issued with those that use them.

Other places -- forget about it!. Geesh, I faxed partially blocked out ID with a copy of the invoice to one place and found out I may have to do so again. What's up with that? So much for customer service.....to not permanently acknowledge sufficient age of their customers.

As much as I don't enjoy any of the systems, I am glad that the option of additional fees and produce ID to your postman to get the package isn't being used much.

Yeah I haven't tried ordering yet out of sketchiness. Main worry is that the payment will go through and THEN i'll need to verify my age. Meaning i'm out of however much I just spent and at the mercy of the verification system in place.

You will never be out money for a product you didn't get (or at least shipped).

In the US it is illegal for a company to get the money from your credit card company before an item is in SHIPPED status. How the process works is this: When you "check out", the seller really just validates that the card is yours and the funds are available. Your credit card company then puts that amount of money "on hold". At this stage the seller does NOT have your money, your bank/CC company still has it. Only AFTER an item is shipped the seller then posts the order for the bank/CC company to release the funds. If this doesn't happen within a certain number of days the funds are released back to your account.

If you cancel an order before it is shipped, the seller reverses the order and the bank/CC company will unblock those funds in your account immediately. So even if you checked out before verifying age, the seller could not get your money without actually shipping it, and you would get it back automatically in like 2 weeks or so anyway, faster if they reversed the order.

Honestly doesn't the fact that you have a credit card (not a debit card) automatically mean you are at least 18+? That alone should be enough for 18+ locations.

I don't think it's terribly straightforward for an on-line merchant to discern between an actual credit card, a debit card, and a pre-paid "gift" card.

Plus someone under 18 can easily get an actual credit card if, a credit-worthy adult (most often that would be a parent) co-signs for them, or simply makes them an "authorized user" on his account.

Your DL# isn't that big of a deal, you've already given most of the information on your DL and the rest of it can easily be found in public records, and a picture of your DL with everything but the birthday blocked is no big deal at all. This has been standard since the 1990's to get tobacco coupons in the mail.
If I didn't trust a place to have a picture of my DL I sure wouldn't trust them to have my CC# or send me what I paid for.

I agree with that part. But not everyone has been in the same house for 30 years with a longer credit rating. I've never been delayed since ecig stuff has been checking. Someone who's 21 should expect it.

Yeah I moved around about every year or two back in the day. But for myself I just won't do it. Luckily I have collected good gear and have no issues waiting for China to deliver.

I've had medical people call me, to confirm it's me they ask for last 4 of SS#. Uhh, no, you tell me the last 4 digits and I'll tell you if you're right. Then I might believe it's someone with my records in front of them and not someone phishing.

I've had junk mail for vehicles I own, the govt freely sells that information. Identity verification for govt stuff is scary with the information they have stored. They have all those addresses where you moved every year or two if you had any records of being there.

How often do you have to submit your drivers license and such? Am 21 but i'm not sure if I have enough public records to where a system would be able to determine that, and I don't have a way to scan my ID or anything and am not sure if taking a picture would work. Just want to figure this out before trying to order from anywhere, because them taking my money and THEN asking for my ID sounds like it could be a pretty big pain. Or alternatively if there are any places that don't do this, i'm all ears.

For the sites I have been to --I thought the age verification took place b4 you placed your order. I just looked and see they do as you pay. Wow. Here are a couple of ideas,

Perhaps you can call them and let them know you want to order but have concerns and see if they can pre-verify you or at least give you an assurance that it will go through. Worth a shot
