This is what I have researched on the retro novelty candy Pixie Stix. They come in various flavor straws...Cherry, grape, orange, blueberry, strawberry, raspberry. Occasionally they made a green apple and lemon-lime one.

Sweet + tart + possibly very mild cool on the tongue.

So I'm thinking possibly fruity punch mix, tropical; with some EM, Sour, and a tiny drop of Koolada. ??

What do you think? What else would you try adding, if anything? Menthol maybe? Champagne? And how much of it??

I want the fruit to pop, be sweet but not sickening sweet, be tart, be candy...all of the above. But no idea really of how exactly to get it there.

Also please...which vendors fruits have you found to have a chemical and/or perfumy taste/aroma?? I want to stay away from those if possible. Any TRUE fruit flavors that you would recommend??

TIA!! :)

Start with this recipe as a base, then play around with variations: DeMulta's Sweet Tarts

I made that one when I got my first DIY supplies and I did not care for it. To me it had a chemical/perfumyness to it that I could not get past. I think from the Red Bull. IDK.

I will revisit it and try it again. Thanks for your reply. :)

Just mixed tpa red bull and blueberry extra....it is definitely the red bull that turned me away. I got a drop of it on my finger and it smells like a cheap perfume to me. (Maybe mine is a bad batch of red bull.)

If I remember correctly, it tasted the same way. JMO of course, and I am probably in the minority here on it.

Has anyone found that this goes away with steeping??

OK...I revisited the above recipe yesterday as suggested. Mixed it, shook it a long time, let it sit overnight, shook it again this morning, and gave it a hot water bath for 15 min, shook again, let cool off. Dripped it. The SweetTart recipe is not working for me still. All I can taste is the Red Bull. That distinct perfumy Red Bull.

What am I doing wrong?? So many others absolutely love the recipe. What's wrong with me!?

I think I will call her and ask about my bottle of Red Bull. I don't think I have read anywhere of anyone else getting a perfumy reaction to their Red Bull. IDK. :(

Long story short...I'm still looking for a recipe for a Pixie Stix vape.

Anyone?? Advise??

Sounds, to me, as though you may have a "lighter" palate.

Suggestion, take your current mix that tastes wrong and cut it. That recipe is an unusual one as most mixes with that level of flavoring taste "perfumey" to most folks, but that one works for some odd reason. Usually the perfumey tastes comes from too much flavoring, so a cut seems in order.

I put flavoring levels in this order from lowest to highest:
Nothing
Something, but nothing like what I expected
Hint of good here
Close to good
Good
Good, but with a harsh edge
OK, but getting chemically
Nasty chemical taste
I don't taste a darn thing, but the dog is running out of the room

The difference between these points can be 1%, and sometimes less (one of my most requested recipes is at 5.7% flavoring level and 6% is too much)

Thanks Hoosier. I will try that.

I am about ready to give up at DIY'ing!!

But yet at the same time, I have too much $ vested in flavors and supplies to do that.

I am running dangerously low on my pre-made juice and had promised myself not to order more pre-made from vendors. Sure hoping not to have to break that promise to myself. It's not looking good. lol.

Why would you make a promise like that?

It took me months to get to the point that I no longer had to buy premade and could go only with my own creations. While i have 0 desire to go back to premade, i had numerous recipes that ended up being nothing but a slash and note of, "abandon all hope" in my note book.

Some folks think I'm pretty good at this stuff, but i still make plenty of juice that is washed down the drain. (I call that discovering the way to NOT make something.). Typical mixing session, make 6 bottles of known good recipes and 6 experiments. Typically the 6 experiments are OK, but when i started those 6 were typically horrid.

Experience with mixing to your tastes makes a huge difference and it can take some time. It took me less time to switch to vaping and that took me about 5 weeks.

Silly, I know. I foolishly made that promise with the mindset of I have spent a boat load on flavors.

Thanks for your encouragement, and for sharing your story with me Hoosier. I feel better now! :D

"What ever it takes" to stay off analogs was my original saying when I started vaping...I think I better stick to that and buy what ever it takes to do just that. If that is to be more pre-made juice...so be it.

Do you have any tart and sour? I've never used it, but you could try just adding a drop to your sweet tarts liquid and go from there.

What nicotine are you using? The sweet tart recipe isn't working from me either (it always has in the past), so it's either the nic or the flavoring.

I have tart & sour on the way.

I have 36mg nic from Levy at xtremevaping.
I use pg/vg to "test" flavor mixes, no nic. So I know it's not the nic in my case.

I can't say that I am overly excited about the TPA SweetTart flavoring that I have either. It's not nearly as bad as the recipe mix with the Red Bull though.
