Thanks MadOtis and Portertown. Finally some REAL info. I expected the blue pill jokes and the usual cautions about vaping medicine's.
I think a little common sense tells ya not to vape cotton that is obviously contaminated! If the cotton comes from a bottle containing capsules or hard non powdery tabs, especially safe meds like vitamins or in your case MadOtis, Claritin, I would think it ok.
Thanks guys. I am going to burn some more of mine and compare again with a regular cotton ball to be sure it is indeed pure cotton. This stuff is way smoother in texture than cvs cotton balls. It vapes great though.

Long fibers, super clean, no taste. Doesn't seem like Rayon or Dacron or Orlon or Herculon or polyester to me, burns like cotton not like plastic but stands up to the heat of coils very well. Seems more cotton-like than the stuff cigarette filters are made out of but who knows, just works great for me.

You know, after looking at it again and again, you may be right. It sure is tasteless though. Not that that means anything as far as toxicity goes. Just know that it stands up to heat well, is tasteless, and wicks well. Swear there is less taste than what I know to be genuine cotton.

If it is rayon, the chemical processing it goes through might remove any thing in it that would give that "cotton" taste. I agree that real cotton has a certain taste to it that seems to go away after half a tank of juice or so for me. Real cotton has not been processed except for bleaching. It seems to me that boiling real cotton in distilled water removes some of that "cotton" taste.

Rayon may be safe to use as a wick, I just don't know what is left over in it from the processing.

I've used pill bottle cotton before. I didn't boil it at first and it tasked like the vitamins that it was surrounded by (real bad). I boiled it and it worked perfectly fine. I only vaped on it unboiled once and it was pretty nasty tasting. It definitely has to do with the type of pill bottle its in. Mine happened to come from some organic green coffee pills my girlfriend bought... not tasty at all!

I agree, Seems to hold up to heat better than cotton and wicks great. Also I detect absolutely zero taste, just the liquid.
With that said, I gotta respect what Portetown and others have said and think about weather it really is safe to use. I don't know how to test this to be sure. Who knows, we may have the ultimate wicking material and not know it!...or we may be killing ourselves.

Because it appears to be superior to regular cotton balls. It is sterile, burns cleanly,lasts longer than cotton, no taste, smoother texture easy to pull off just the right amount, wicks great, I agree, if it were just plain ol cotton balls there would be no point even discussing it.
I personally have no concerns about medicine contamination. The amount that could be on a small wick would be insignificant.
The point of the post is to determine if this "cotton" is really just cotton and not some other substance and if it is Rayon or some other synthetic's, Is it safe to vape?
I am pretty sure this question was asked somewhere by someone when silica, cotton, hemp, you name it first came about as possible wick material.

There are a lot of substances used in juice that are perfectly harmless to eat yet considered inhalation hazards.

Just because you can swallow it doesn't mean you should vape it.

ok, After reading that, I had to check... and... I'm still alive! However, I'm hoping its just coincidental that my 5th testicle just started growing out for no other apparent reason...

Seriously, I don't contest that at all and I largely agree with you, so I'm not trying to spur a flame-war. I just look at it as I've smoked about a pack-per-day of analogs for over 35 years, so a micro-amount of pharmaceutical dust being atomized for a few initial puffs isn't likely to kill me any faster. So, to me, it's no big deal; to others it could be a heinous crime. As mentioned, I get most of mine from Claritin bottles and the rest from my pharmacist, who I doubt would give me cotton from anything dangerous or from controlled substances; so, I'm betting it's still pretty safe to use, at least for me it is.

On the plus side, if I die from it, you get the satisfaction of knowing you were right and I was wrong.
