Read a post a long time ago about using the cotton found in pill bottles for wick material. My wife just bought a bottle of Natures valley Meletonin from Wall Mart and it had this huge ball of the most smooth soft cotton I have ever seen. I pulled off a tuft and burned it with a lighter, also burned a piece of regular cotton ball and they burned the same. So I figured I'd try it out in my R91.
So far, It is awesome! Any input?

Hahaha. I actually have a stash of cotton from pill bottles too.
I haven't used any yet though.
i was thinking that if I was going to, i would boil the ever loving heck out of it first.
Maybe even do a soak in PGA first, then boil several times.
Probably won't, but, maybe I will. I dunno. I'll let you know if I do.

Cmon now who doesnt want a vape thats rich and thick and has the added benefit of providing 13 or your daily vitamins and nutrients in every tank!

when you come home from work with a headache you can just trade out for the aspirin cotton.

LOL
What would happen if you vaped the cotton from a little bottle of magic blue diamond pills?

Ok, I kinda predicted the responses so far. I am more concerned about the actual makeup of the cotton used. Is it 100% real cotton? If not is it still ok ? Is this like "pharmaceutical cotton"? That kind of thing. As far as vaping medicine from the pills, I am not concerned with that. I'm not using cotton from a crumbly old bottle of Xanax from TJ. These are Melatonin, pretty much inert and non toxic. No powder or odor, Just pure clean snow white cotton. No tiny lumps like regular cotton.
It really vapes nice. Cleaner tasting than regular cotton balls. Maybe I'm wildly reckless, but I never boiled my cotton either.

I dont know if I would trust it, they are just using it for a spacer and needs to be clean, tere is no way to know if it is even 100% cotton fiber.

you can try to burn a little and see if it pure or if it melts. if you feel it is pure cotton clean it off and try a little bit, im sure you will know if it works in just a drag or two.

other then that go for it, just dont complain when you get ...... tongue :D

Yes! It has to be clean, as in VERY clean. Precisely my reason for wanting to try it.
As far as the rest of your post, I'm guessing you didn't read my post all the way through.
Anyone else actually try it? I would be interested in how long it lasts compared to plain cotton balls. All I know at this point is that it seems superior to cotton balls.

I just stumbled across this post after doing some research on pill-bottle cotton (I know, I should have checked here first!). So far, I haven't had ......-tongue (thank goodness!), but my sinuses have never been clearer; I get most of mine from Claritin bottles.

Per a good friend who is a pharmacist, all cotton used in pill packaging is supposed to be sterile, so you CAN use it without boiling. Any medicinal dust on the cotton can cause some funky tastes, but if it is safe to take medicinally, it generally should be safe to "vape", and should only last for a few puffs (enough juice to replace the priming of the wick).

Also, you want to make sure it's real cotton, and not a synthetic mixture (again, from my pharmacist source). Real cotton is generally a bit rougher in appearance than unrolled cotton balls and will usually have some lumps or knots in the strands (slightly courser in texture than a cotton ball) because it results in a slightly more bulky packing material than smoother cotton, so they can use less in each bottle. If it's much finer than what you find in an unrolled cotton ball, then you should burn a little to make sure it isn't synthetic; finer cotton isn't typically used as filler because it takes more to form the same amount of packaging bulk (thus costing more $$).

Pill-bottle cotton is all I use, now... my pharmacist buddy saves it for me out of the bulk pill bottles he uses to fill prescriptions, if they come with cotton in them, plus I go through a bottle of Claritin each month.

Cheers and vape-on!

There are a lot of substances used in juice that are perfectly harmless to eat yet considered inhalation hazards.

Just because you can swallow it doesn't mean you should vape it.

I would be a little cautious with using medicine bottle "cotton". I worked in the Pharmaceutical packaging industry for 38 years. Some of the medicine bottle cotton is real cotton and some is not.

This is from a Pharmaceutical coil supplier:
Pharmaceutical coil is available in three types of fiber: cotton, rayon and polyester. Whatever your application requirements, we can help you achieve your goals.
