I did a few google searches and a few forum searches but didn't see anything more than a sentence or two. Is it simply a USB or wall cord that you use instead of the battery? Is that all it refers to?

Is the purpose to give your battery more life span as it won't be using and recharging it as much? I am in front of a computer for most of the day so this could be an option for me but would still bring my battery if I wanted to go to lunch, outside, etc.

***Complete side note and feel free to take over this thread after definition is defined. But I was googling:
510 usb adapter vape

and came across Smok Tech 5 Volt 510 Manual USB Passthrough

Earlier today I was looking for a battery with external usb output to charge phone or other external device but could also use to vape with my ego-c starter kit parts. But thought maybe I could use my existing 1000mah batteries with some sort of adapter. I go camping and hiking from time to time and it would be nice to use the 2x1000mah batteries that I already got. Maybe the mah isn't high enough for this purpose though?

From what I can tell on my other post (http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...ery-than-can-also-used-charge-cell-phone.html) I may be best with a MVP for battery recharge life span for this purpose.

But after looking more maybe I could use one of these pass-throughs or adapters to use my existing battery to charge cell. phone?

I never really did understand why they are called 'pass-through'. I mean, I get it but it doesn't really pass through

This is hardware that allows you to vape while the battery is charging while you have it plugged in. You will be vaping off the battery. Now there are a few devices out there that are called pass-throughs that do not use a battery. Just plug it in and vape straight from the line power source (mains power, usb, etc).

It always means that you can vape while plugged in, as long as you have a slight charge on the battery.

I guess what's the point unless you only have one battery. I got 2 batteries so one can always be charging. The one that came up in my search Smok Tech 5 Volt 510 Manual USB Passthrough appears to not have a battery at all and takes the place of the battery instead...so was wondering if the point was to increase your battery life by using a USB plug in when located near a computer?

It also says not to use an atomizer less than 2.5 ohms. With my original purchase I got a 5 pack of 2.7 ohm and a 5 pack of 1.7 ohm but I'm not even sure how to tell the two apart. Don't see label anywhere...that might be separate thread topic. Well I guess this question might be as well. That one says 5 volt. Is that even compatible with my ego-c? Aren't those like 2.3 V? Might need to start a new thread on this ohm volt stuff. Been years since I took a physics course dealing with that stuff.

I just bought a cheapo "passthrough" with variable voltage that has no battery at all. All you need a USB port.

Can you provide link? And again is this just to increase your battery life as you don't need to use/recharge them when near a USB port. I got USB port handy 60-75% of my day just curious of that is what the point of these are.

Any thoughts on usage with my 2.7 ohm or 1.5 ohm atomizers?

FastTech

This is out of Hong Kong so be prepared for a wait. You can likely find one in the US for a little more. I was ordering other stuff and just tossed it in.

Any thoughts on usage with my 2.7 ohm or 1.5 ohm atomizers?

That question is way above my pay grade.

A true passthru doesn't have a battery. It's just basically a USB corded 510 / ego connector that you plug in to vape. You have to have it connected all the time as there is nothing to charge.

They usually put out about 4.2 volts. As it's 4.2 volts, it might be a little hot for the 1.5 ohm atomizer you have and about right (or perhaps a little cool) for the 2.7ohm heads / atomizers. The link above does contain a VV true passthru though (it's the first one on the list) I have no experience with any of those models listed though, so can't vouch for their functionality.

A modified passthru has a battery, but you can charge it as you vape it. A good example has already been given - the MVP, although there is now the itaste VV 3.0 that is also VW and can be charged and vaped at the same time. Both of these devices you can change the voltage output so they should be good for both the 1.5 and 2.7ohm devices you mentioned.

Passthru means there is a battery to charge, when charged the power that would normally charge the battery passes thru to run the rig

$7.43 JIB LD3000 "3000mAh" Single USB Portable Power Bank External Power Source - real capacity 2200mAh at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

Solar powered so you can recharge it on the hike!
$18.11 DS-5000 Solar Powered 5000mAh Single USB Portable Power Bank External Power Source at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

And I use this USB bypass (no battery)
http://www.ahappydeal.com/product-116100.html

On a usb bypass you are running 5vdc (right outta the computer/charger/5vdc USB power source), using this chart below 5vdc + a low resistance head = ALOT of watts...lots of watts = a GREAT VAPE...or burned to crap coil/juice in seconds! (most people aim for 7-8 watts, but your mileage may vary)

Also, not sure the size of those 2x1000mAh batteries...if you have alot of 18650's you could always roll with something like this

Ohh so the MVP and the itaste VV 3.0 which I was looking at earlier is also considered a "modified pass-through". Good to know that it can server as tri-purpose. Keep phone charged, charge while vaping, and variable voltage (which I'm not sure about all of the volt stuff yet).

Sorry to ask again but besides the "modified pass-through" is the point of a "pure pass-through" (one with no battery) to save the battery life of your current batteries by reducing the number of recharges you do per day? I mean other than that I'm not sure what the purpose is other than maybe it gives you a different voltage?

Now that one is very nice for camping and hiking. I was starting to wonder if on some of my weekend trips if I would I have to break out the analogs. Although I wonder what my camping crew is going to think when I bring that contraption for sole purpose of e cig :) I guess I do have the multiple disposable route to go with on those trips if I had to.

I think the whole point of owning one is to save battery cycles yes. Plus you can get a USB charger in the car that will allow you to use a passthru in there - which will considerably increase your battery usage for the day as you won't be using them until you are away from the USB port.

I think everyone should have a passthru, they are inexpensive and rarely go wrong. It's just a USB cable with a 510 connector on the end.

It's funny, Warhawk just posted a pretty robust setup that is probably better than most battery mods and APVs out there if you think about vaping time and flexibility.

EDIT - I am not sure (I don't own one) if the itaste VV 3.0 has a USB output like the MVP.

I taste is too small...its just a passthru, charge as you use

Only has the one "micro" USB plug on bottom

the MVP is considered a passthru AND a portable power unit

If you look, it has a micro USB in, and a regular size USB out

Aggy I have to take exception to that based on time line.

The original product definition of a passthrough was a battery, that could be plugged in and charging, and be used to vape without having to disconnect the battery from the power source. Considering these sprang up in the era where 510 cigalike batteries were still a big player you can appreciate the advantage they had. You could vape, maintain the charge on the battery, and disconnect it from the power cord and still have a fully charged battery when you needed to get up and go. Not going to quibble over whether "passthrough" is a word that well defines what the product does on a technical level.

These new things like Mohamed linked to fail to meet that criteria at all. Disconnected from a source of power they serve no purpose. To distinguish them from what is historically known as a passthrough I believe they should be called directly powered devices. A passthrough is by the original product definition a battery - this ain't got no battery.

My technical spidey sense goes off about these non battery things too. Considering how high the current draw can be from a device - undoubtedly why the warning flag is going up about not using LR devices on them - I wouldn't dare plug them in to my computer. Hell, I'm not ever sure a 2 amp USB supply would be sufficient.

**cough** USB BYPASS **cough** ;)

Run mine all day long on my computer...at work and home, and in my truck with a el-cheapo cigarette lighter USB charger (in fact I use my USB bypass MORE than my other rigs with batteries in em...go figure

I did put a 2.8Ω head on my vivi nova mini but no problems whatsoever...well unless you consider the fact the cord is only held by a stupid teeny blob of glue and if you tug on it, it breaks the little 32gauge wire inside, easily fixable with a knot tied in the cord and a few seconds on the solder iron

I am going to try and put a IC voltage regulator on one of the 4 I have already bought, this way instead of a straight hot running 5vdc I can regulate it down to 3.6 with the capability of pushing 1.5A
