Over-flavoring actually diminishes the flavor?

So I made my first couple batches of DIY juice over the last two days.

I used 100% VG, except for my flavors which are from Capella's and are PG based.

From what I've been reading, it is harder to make VG dominate juice as flavorful as PG juice right off the bat and you usually have to use a bit more flavoring.

So I started out around 10% flavoring and worked my way up to 20% but the flavor never seemed to get very pungent or strong.

I read tonight though that over-flavoring your juice can actually diminish the flavor considerably?

This seems very counter-intuitive. I would think that adding more flavor would result in a strong taste.

Does anyone have any information as to why over-flavoring can actually make the taste weaker?

I think of too much flavor kind of like over stimulating your taste buds. This is certainly simplistic and they physiology is much more complex, but for me it helps me to understand. It's easier and less costly to start with a conservative amount of flavor and work your way up. Just my 2 cents....

Some flavors need more of a steep time than others. Some of my tobacco bases require at least a month of steeping unless I use an USC. Vanilla takes a minimum of 10 days before the flavor fully develops for me. It initially tastes like butter. Has anyone else had a similar experience with vanilla or other non-tobacco flavors?

Yes I have..... especially with vanilla. Letting a mix with vanilla sit really is amazing to me. At first it is either just OK or tastes funky. In a few days it loses some of the lousy taste and mellows out. With each passing day I notice a change. The vanilla also comes out more. I'm sure this happens with my other flavors (non-tobacco) but I've been so focused on the vanilla I haven't paid much attention. I better do a change of pace soon or my taste buds will revolt when they see more vanilla coming!!
