Please if you use cotton yarn or roving. No matter who it is from, no matter organic or not. BOIL IT. Boil it several times for 15 minutes each at a hard boil. Change the water in between.
If it is hand spun then someones had their grubby paws all over it. If it is machine spun then it will by definition have trace amounts of the high grade oils used to lube the spinning parts of the machine.
MOST yarns also have fabric finishing/sizing in them. They also might have remnants of bleaching agents.
