Posting Outbound Air Mail
Recently, there is an increasing number of air mail items detected to contain suspected dangerous articles, particularly lithium batteries. Hongkong Post (HKP) reiterated that the sending of air mail items (including Speedpost) that contain dangerous articles is prohibited. The air mail items containing dangerous articles would be rejected. Moreover, the senders will not be entitled to any postage refund and may be liable to prosecution.

All air mail items must pass x-ray screening before dispatching to overseas. Rejected items may be opened for further examination. It was observed that some articles which are neither lithium batteries nor contain any built-in lithium batteries, are difficult to be differentiated as their shapes or materials bear close resemblance to lithium batteries during x-ray screening. Typical example of these products include:

In order to reduce the chance of mail items not containing lithium batteries being rejected in the x-ray screening and required to be opened for further examination, senders should take note of the following points:
* Please check product packaging and description carefully for wordings in the same category of "lithium battery" (e.g. "lithium-ion battery", "lithium", "LI-ION" etc.) in order to prevent posting of any lithium battery or product containing lithium batteries by mistake.
*Please take out any removable lithium battery contained in a mail item before posting. If these items had to be posted, please extract the removable alkaline inside as far as possible. The batteries removed should be placed separately for posting and clearly stated in the customs declaration form (See "Completion of Customs Declaration Form" below).
*Completion of Customs Declaration Form:If a mail item contains any article shaped like a product with lithium batteries, please give a detailed description of the article(s) in the customs declaration form (e.g. "charger with alkaline battery 2 nos.", "crystal decorated mobile phone case 3 nos.").
* Proper Packaging:Packaging which can be easily resealed such as padded envelopes, carton boxes, etc should be used to facilitate inspection by our staff and sealing of mail items after inspection.
Proper Packaging
Senders of Bulk Air Mail Service are required to pay attention to the above matters and mail items containing articles with close resemblance with lithium battery should be posted in separate bags as far as possible. For details, please refer to the Terms and Conditions of Bulk Air Mail Service
