Nicotine: Sweating, Anxiety, and Nootropic properties

Hi all,

From around 2007 (when I started smoking), I began to regularly sweat in my armpits regardless of circumstance. I could be in a cool room by myself and without fail, my underarms would be soaked with sweat.

I quit smoking and started using strong (Extra Sterk) Swedish Snus in the middle of 2009, and my sweating problem became even worse. It was a great source of embarrassment for me to always be sweating, even when most other people weren't. I always had to prepare my clothes with an extra "sweat-soaking" layer underneath, even during Summer.

Even strong anti-perspirant deodorants seemed to have no effect.

Switching from Snus to e-cigarettes, however, was a great surprise! I had stopped sweating in all those ridiculous situations. The only time I would find myself sweating for no reason was when I would chain-vape 24mg/ml e-juice.

And of course that is when I realized that nicotine had been the culprit the entire time!
Since I have a tendency to chain vape when at home, I now vape 12mg/ml or lower nicotine juice at home.

When I am out and about, and have less time to spend vaporizing, and fewer chances to get nicotine into my system, I use 24mg/ml e-juice.

Also, I've noticed that, since switching to e-cigarettes from Snus, my anxiety levels have shot down to near zero, when I used to be anxious easily. Again, I am almost certain this is a result of lowering my total nicotine intake.

This, in addition to not having a packet or two of Snus jammed into my gums all the time, means I smile more often, more easily, and my quality of life has significantly improved.

I am highly interested in psychopharmacology and attaining optimum cognitive performance. After reading about nicotine's potential benefits as a nootropic drug (brain-enhancing drug with little or few negative side effects), I recently ceased all nicotine use for two weeks.

After the first seven days (which were difficult), I noticed that I felt good in general, even without particular reason for feeling good. Despite this, my mind simply did not feel as sharp or well-functioning as it did when I had nicotine. And so, at the end of the two weeks, I began using my e-cigarettes again.

With e-cigarettes, and the nicotine involved, my mind feels clear and crisp, like a well-oiled machine. Since I've lowered my total nicotine intake, I feel that I am reaping the cognitive benefits of nicotine, without subjecting myself to the anxiety and sweating of higher nicotine levels.

So, for any of you e-cigarette users out there suffering from silly sweating issues or anxiety, I highly recommend cutting down your nicotine intake, and see if you get any results!

Hi and welcome! That would be a real interesting discussion for the Health section of the forum - maybe some others there would have insight into the mechanisms involved. Once you have 5 posts/replies and wait about an hour you should then be able to post anywhere on the forum.

I do think vaping (and formerly smoking) make it easier for me to concentrate but no idea if it is the nicotine or the lack of distraction while performing the action of breathing in something.
