New here and need answers

Hey y'all,

New here so be easy on me. I'm making the switch from Ego's to more advanced forms of vaping. I don't care for RBA's or RDA's, I'd prefer just to buy the coils. So here's my question; I want to slap an Aerotank Giant on a battery. But! All I can find is a Seven 22 or Seven 30. It lines up perfect, that's what I want. But it's so long (that's what she said). So is there a battery I can match the Aerotank Giant to that's a bit shorter? Like, can I put it on a mod with an 18350 or will it fry my coils? Basically, can I put an Aerotank Giant on a mechanical battery, if not what batteries can I put it on that are the same size as the tank?

Aerotank Giant is 28mm diameter.

I honestly don't know of a 28mm shorty. I'll have to do some checking around. But yes you should be ok on a 18350 batt. It is still only 3.7 volts. and with a fixed resistance like 1.8 or 2.1 or whatever coil you use the power drain would be pretty slow.

*Also...If you want to try regulated the Eleaf Istick is really small but it's kind of like a box mod so that might not be what you are looking for...but it would work. Disclaimer: I don't own an Istick so I can't vouch for their quality...I just know a lot of people are using them.

The fella's at my local vape shop say if I use a regular tank on an 18350 mod it'll burn up the coils. Is there an ohm range in which that won't happen?

Not true. Assuming a freshly charged battery at 4.2 volts, a 1.8 ohm coil would be running at just under 10 watts, and a 1.6 ohm coil at just over 11 watts, and while some folks might find that a little high for them, it won't burn out a coil. I've done it myself, just on an 18650 mod with a Nautilus and a Kanger Aerotank.

As to what resistance, it all depends on what you like. Generally speaking, higher resistance = lower power = cooler vape, lower resistance = higher power = warmer vape.

I currently use 3.7v ego with 1.8ohm coils. If I buy an Aerotank you're saying I can use it on a mechanical mod as long as I have high ohm coils?

I wouldn't even say high ohm, really. If you look at the discharge curve of a lithium battery, you'll not that it's relatively flat at right around its nominal voltage of 3.7 volts. (Relative being the operative term):

http://www.all-battery.com/productimages/li-ion/18650-2200mAh-discharge-curve.jpg

Voltage drops relatively rapidly from the start of discharge and then stays pretty consistent until you get below around 20% capacity. At 1.8 ohms, that will give you right around 7.6 watts (assuming 3.7 volts) which may be a little weak for you.

Dropping down to a 1.6 ohm coil bumps that to about 8.5 watts.

With a mech, you tailor resistance to what the battery can do, unlike a regulated mod that allows you to bump voltage up over what a battery can produce on its own.
