94-year old Lithium-Ion battery inventor unveils new ultra-efficient glass battery

Well, it doesn't say vape, but it could be good for us. But it could let us vape for 3x longer with 1200 recharge cycles.
I've been interested in battery research for years. Every month there is a big breakthrough. What all the big breakthroughs have in common is you never hear about them again. I'm jaded.

This time might be a little different because it's coming from the guy who perfected the li battery in use today. He published the latest work in a reputable journal. And damn, he's 94 years old. It would be totally cool if he came back 50 years after the first breakthrough to make the next one. So I'm going to keep track of this one this time.

That's the usual problem with many new tech stuff. Especially batteries. I've read of many new solutions, and then you never see it make it out of the lab. Even if something like this does pan out, there's no guarantee it will make it into the form factor we currently rely on, an 18650 battery. It would be great if it did happen.

This technology is intended for small and hand held devices. If it can't take the shapes those devices need it won't sell very well. For some reason Li batteries want to be small, even when they're supposed to deliver a lot of power, as in a car.

I read a peice some where that said, in effect, a nano tech super battery (how about energy density of liquid fuel) would be the biggest advance in mechanical engineering since steam power. Goodenough's work is not that but 3 times energy density, more recharges and faster recharging would change most hand held devices including ecigs. I would love to see him be the one. I'm a fan.
