Since my lungs are good and health is good in general for 61 , quitting smoking because of health issues was not something that went through my mind.
this is the story( i do hope no one is offended by the spiritual references, if so let me know so I can be more respectful of all on this forum)
A long time ago I was told a story about tobacco by an Old Northern Cheyenne. It stuck with me for about 40 years now
For most Native Americans, Indian, skins or whatever the PC term is tobacco is a sacred herb/medicine. Over the many many years it was used in a more leisurely manner and well look where we are today. We Humans are an odd bunch.
tobacco is still sacred and still used to send prayers out.
this is the story( if the spiritual reference offend anyone let me know so I can be more respectful)
There was a time when Creator and Humans had good communication, but humans being what we are that communication broke down. Creator put out a call in that place for some help. the Spirit of Grandfather Tobacco volunteered to give up its life there and manifest on this earth to help Humans communicate better with creator.
That is one of the stories I know. Its just taken me 20 years to get to a place to be willing to use it for ceremony only.

when I am not living on the coast I grow some Nicotina Rustica that came from the Carolinas. Most of my Relatives came from the Overhill District in Tennesse and used the same native tobacco.
