Hey guys. I'm new here so am not yet allowed to post in the rba section but I was hoping someone could help me out. I just ordered my first rebuildable atomizer, the IGO-L along with 2mm ekowool for wicking and some Kanthal A-1 ribbon wire .5mm x .1mm. I am aiming for approximately 1.5 - 2.0 ohm resistance coils for the atty. Could someone give me some tips on how many wraps, etc to achieve this? Thanks in advance.

There are several ways to wrap a coil around silica/ekowool. Personally, I use an alligator clip to hold the ekowool/kanthal together and just tie it free hand. Some people first wrap the kanthal around something like a drill bit and then pull the wick through. Another method people use is to take a pin or paper clip and wrap the kanthal around that very tight. Then when you pull the paper clip out, it has a bit of room.

Learning to work with kanthal and silica is frustrating as h-e-double hockey sticks, but you will get it.

When I was learning I checked out youtube videos, for me it helped to watch it done. Then when I read about it it made more sense after I had seen it. It's not hard, you will be clumsy at first but doesnt take long to get it down.

Sounds like you are off to a good start! You didn't mention the gauge of your wire - the thinner the gauge, the higher the resistance per inch will be. You will get a feel for it once you build a few coils. Also, always remember to check the resistance of your coils before putting them on your device and take into account the resistance of your multimeter

The wire is .5mm x .1mm A-1 kanthal ribbon wire ordered from kidneypuncher.com. Unlike the regular wire, the ribbon did not give choices for gauges. I was under the impression that is because it was different from the regular wire and was based on the size. Which is .5mm x .1mm. Is this correct? Here is a link to the wire I bought so you can see. .5mm x .1mm Kanthal A-1 ribbon wire from KidneyPuncher

I have some of that exact ribbon (same supplier) wrapped around steel cable/mesh wick in an AGA-T2 right now and it works great!

Probably the easiest way to wrap it around the ekowool is to first put a toothpick or something into the wick hollow to make it more sturdy, then it'll be much easier to wrap neatly. When you're done wrapping just remove the toothpick! Putting something sturdy in the hollow of the wick will keep you from wrapping too tight.
