I'm not new to vaping by any means but I need help with a question. I got a kangertech Evod mega 1900mah for my girlfriend and the clearo started to leak so I bought an aspire ets glass clearo and I think it came with a 1.8 coil.. first few tokes were fine but then it started burning the wick, I figured out the mistake i made in not checking the ohm supported by the battery in the previous clearo.. I checked it out afterwards and apparently it was a 1.5 coil in the kanger Evod mega first clearo..I've just ordered a 1.6 coil for the aspire ets and I'm wondering if it will burn the coil as it did with the 1.8 coil or if I may just get away with it. If I am going to be chuffing on burning wick then does anyone know of any decent, cheap clearos for the Evod mega battery. Thanks
James

Hi James.

Whatever happened, it wasn't the resistance (the ohms) of the coil. You can pretty much use anything from 1.5 (1.2?) to 2.5 ohms. Anything higher will be weak. Any lower and your battery might complain.

Most small clearos will fit the Evod Mega. Sadly, you bought an old and poor clearomiser. Even with the BVC heads, those didn't work very well, and the leaking was epic.

You need to properly prime a new / unused head or it will burn/scorch the wicking material.

The et-s style bvc's heads are a little trickier to prime well, put 1-2 drops right down the center then lay the head on its side, drip a few drops in each wicking hole.
Drip drops on the wicking material until fully saturated, then install in base, fill tank & thread together.
Now take a few un powered primer puffs, you should see a few bubbles rise from the wicking holes.

The head needs to be tight into the base, the tank to base only snug enough to prevent leaking.

What explains the burning taste then? And do you know any decent clearomizers I can get for her on the Evod mega battery

I primed it and waited atleast 5mins before vaping.. Like I said the first few tokes were flavour full, it had bubbled (juice going into the wick) and it had stopped bubbling so I don't understand why it would burn it after a few drags

What is the pg/vg ratio of your juice?
High % vg won't wick well in the et-s.
It has to bubble occasionally to wick properly, when it tastes a little dry and you don't notice a bubble rising occasionally you may need to do a few un powered primer puffs to pull juice into the head.

Dark or colored and especially sweet liquids tend to clog wicking material gunk coils & burn easier.

A lot of folks like the eleaf air gs air type clearo's, cheap enough to give it a shot.

I think it's 50/50 ratio.. I did prime it but maybe I didn't prime it enough.. The liquid is quite clear, yellowish tint to it but I've been using this juice for months and never had a problem not even in my old ecigs

And thanks mate, just ordered a gs air.. Looks good hopefully no problems with this one

The burning taste is realistically only 1 of 2 problems.

1) You didn't prime it.
2) You are running it at more power than it can wick the liquid at.

You are safe with a GS Air. They are good. I hope you got a slim one? The fat ones are for mods.

Your battery is 18.5mm wide. The slim/standard GS tank is 16.5mm. You shouldn't even need a "beauty ring' to convert an eGo battery to look right with a 510 clearo.

All in all, should be a result! :)

James, Evod Mega is a dual-coil atty, which means that it can take twice the wattage of a single-coil atty like the Aspire atty (if it's a BVC coil--the BDC coil is a dual coil, also). A 1.5Ω dual coil consists of two 3Ω coils. Also, the ETS glass clearo is kind of old design and it has very little airflow, so it's prone to dry hits (burning taste).

I like Eleaf GS tanks a lot--just remember that GS Air 1.5Ω coils are duals (two 3Ω coils), while their 1.2Ω coils are single vertical coils. Always make sure that you check the resistance of your coil and its build (single or dual) and then calculate the wattage accordingly. When in doubt, start low and increase your wattage as necessary.

Good luck!

The kangertech Evod mega 1900mah the OP is using isn't a vv/vw power device.
The authentic ones are regulated 3.7v.
Think big ego style battery.

You can buy replacement heads for the delivery device that came with it.
Leaking most likely caused by the head needing to be replaced, maybe a missing or damaged o ring.

The gs air should work well.

Ooops. Nice catch. Elvis... They are still making unregulated batteries? So sorry, I just assumed, foolishly, that all new eGo-class batteries are vv.

OP, do you have a vv/vw battery? If not, a 1.5Ω dual-coil atty may be a bit on a low side (~4.4 watts)... I usually vape my GS Air tanks at 4.2-4.4 volts. The 1.2 Ω single coil may be a bit too hot (11 watts), but doable--those verticals have great airflow.

Maybe you should consider a small and inexpensive vw device, like iStick 30?

Yeah I didn't want to spend more money on the kanger clearo because I'd read a lot of reviews of people complaining about the leaking problems and my girlfriend isn't too keen on the idea of constantly cleaning out the clearo so I just wanted something that I can leave her with and not have to worry about

There's nothing wrong with Kanger clearos--especially those newer ones with dual coils and their new organic cotton ones. I still use my Aerotanks and Emows. :) There's a bit of a learning curve--like with everything else vaping related. A few tips--just in case:

Kanger Troubleshooting 101:

If your clearo is flooding, the connections are not tight enough--or too tight. Keep reading.

If you're using clearos and getting a burnt taste it means that not enough juice is getting to the coil and you're basically vaping dry, hot air or inhaling smoke from the gunk that's burning off of your coil. Not a good thing. Another case of bad taste maybe the tank itself--some arrive covered with some kind of nasty grease; wash them with soap and water (just the tanks--soak the coils in PGA or vodka).

There are a few things you need to remember when using an eVod or a ProTank--in addition to keeping your coils clean and free of gunk that accumulates on them.

1) Make sure that the atomizer coil is screwed into the base tightly--every time you refill; they often come not fully tightened from the manufacturer, or may have gotten loose through repeated refills.

2) Look at all the inner seals and gaskets to make sure they haven't become dislodged.

3) Make sure that you screw the tank into its base tightly. If it's not tight, it will leak.

4) When you screw your clearomizer into your battery, do not overtighten--screw it in only until it makes contact--no farther, or you may push the center post in too deep and cause all kinds of problems, including leaking. When the draw becomes tight or the taste and vapor production begin to diminish, replace the coil. This will happen sooner (even as soon as one day of heavy use) if you're using dark, viscous, or very sweet juices. The old coil can be cleaned and dry burned.

5) Make sure you're not getting any juice in the center tube when you're filling--this will cause your eVod to leak like a sieve. If some juice gets into the tube, close the top cap, place a tissue under your tank and blow gently through the clearomizer to get rid of any excess eliquid. Also, extra condensation inside the tank may, on some occasions, drip back into the center tube. Wipe your mouthpiece dry with a q-tip or a tissue when you refill (or more often when/if needed).

6) Take an occasional "primer puff" (a slow draw without activating the battery) when you vape. It helps move the juice into the coil chamber and removes any air bubbles that sometimes form in the tank and may cause gurgling or impede proper wicking.

7) New clearomizers (Aerotanks etc.) come with a clever airflow adjustment base--make sure you adjust the settings to your liking.

8) Take slow long draws rather than sharp and quick ones like we used to do while smoking cigarettes. Do not over vape, chain vape, power vape. Let the juice travel to the coil between drags.

9) Do not remove any flavor wicks if you're experiencing any leaking or flooding. Those wicks are there for a reason. If you feel that you have to remove a wick because your eliquid is particularly thick, do it carefully--one strand at a time. If your liquid is super thin, you can thicken it with a bit of VG (USP--pharma grade) or you can add another strand of cotton to your flavor wick. Don't add too much or you'll choke your atomizer and get a dry hit.

and last but not least:

10) Keep the coils and wicks clean (search ECF or YouTube for detailed coil cleaning instructions). Discard when when flavor and vapor start to diminish. Those coils are disposable.

Also, make sure you're vaping at correct wattages; Kanger recommends 5.5-7.5 watts for single coils. Dual coils require a bit more wattage than single coils--I like 9-11 watts for duals. They also benefit from increased airflow.

Cheers but I've thrown my kanger head away because it was useless, it looked great and was great at first but then it just leaked and leaked, I took it apart and rebuilt it and it still leaked, I'm sure something was missing from it, it was every time I got below half way and it would just leak.. Search it on google it's a common problem with the Evod mega tank.. Not to worry though, I know what I'm doing to a certain extent I've been vaping for about a year now so I've gone through my fair share of battery's and tanks haha

And don't get me wrong the kanger tanks are great, I had a kanger ce5 kind of tank a while back it was my first kanger tank and I absolutely loved it, had no problems with it and a few of my friends have the kanger mini and subbox tanks and they're awesome.. It just so happened that this specific tank seemed to be having common leaking issues that werent a great deal of convenience for me

You can google complaints about every single vaping device ever manufactured. Wanna google problems with Subtank mini? ;) Most of them are due to user error.

Some devices are better, others are not so good, but they all work--at least for a while. I've never met a topper that didn't work at all--and I've been vaping for 6 years. :D

Take time to learn a bit about your device before discarding it--that's my advice. Unless you just don't like it for whatever reason. I didn't like the Aspire ETS, for example, but it worked--I just didn't care for the quality of the vape I was getting from it.

Good luck.

True say, well you can almost say I'm inexperienced compared to yourself then can't you haha.
Cheers again for the help though, appreciate it.
