A lot of us started vaping with cartomizers before there were any good clearos on the market. We liked the carto for flavor but didn't like having to constantly top off the cartomizer so the carto/tank was perfect.

I personally have tried all the clearos and still prefer the carto/tanks. Just personal preference. You could buy a box of cartomizer and once you're used to filling them, get a carto/tank set up.

The easiest and cheapest introduction to carto tanks:

BOGE F15 TANK CARTOMIZER 1 ML - $4.00 : VapeLite your source for Boge quality electronic cigarettes, Boge electronic cigarettes

For 4 bucks you get a fully assembled carto tank complete with a laser prepunched LR Boge cartomizer already installed--just fill and vape! I own and use one and I like it a lot.

And a video review--he's using f16--same thing, just bigger, because he's using it on his ProVari.

Warning--one bad word in the video... Sorry. But it's a good video.

That said, I've been using my Kanger BCC clearos lately, especially the latest upgrades: T3S, Protank 2 and mini ProTank 2--less hassle and I don't have to deal with that polyfill that comes with all cartos. What I still love about cartomizers, with or without the tank, is the placement of the heating coil: right smack in the center. That's where the coil should be positioned for best performance. I don't like top coils because I don't want that heating element so close to my lips and I don't want to deal with all the wicking problems that come with that design. Bottom coils are great for wicking, but sometimes I wish that that coil were a bit closer to my lips.

As always, YMMV.

I did start out on cartos, so I'm very familiar with filling them. From what I've gathered, for the carto/tank system, it's basically just: fill the carto itself first, then fill the tank, the screw it together. Something like that.

Thank you to everyone else as well. Soon as I get a little PayPal, I'm going to try and find something here, or pick something up off eBay.

Anyone have an opinion on the SmokTech Pyrex Glass DCT? Saw one on eBay for about $12. Only thing I wasn't used to seeing is that it's a really low resistance. 1.5 ohm is lower than I've used. I do have an ego Twist battery as well as an iTaste MVP, so I can just adjust the voltage down, so it shouldn't be an issue I wouldn't think.

if you get a good Kanger t3, it will be a great addition to your kit. though its not necessarily much like the other "tanks", it still holds alot of liquid. mine holds 3mls. my shop just got something in called a "hyper-tank". good god, this thing holds 5 mls of liquid! got a mouth piece and slid it over the drip tip, and took a solid drag. i love it and i dont even have one. look into it!

One thing to remember, and I cant explain the difference (cause I don't use dual coils) but someone else here surely can.....there is a big difference between using a dual coil and a single coil cartos. I've always used single coils cause the duals I've tried just weren't doing it for me. maybe someone here can explain the differences?

In the simplest of terms, vaping a 1.5 Ω dual coil carto is like vaping two 3.0 Ω cartos at the same time. You get more vapor, but the vape will be as cool as it would be if you used a 3.0Ω coil. And they mow through batteries (and juice) like there's no tomorrow.

I don't use them myself. You'd have to really up your voltage to get a satisfactory vape out of them--and that would put additional strain on the battery and use up even more juice.

the kanger mini protank 2 v2 just came out, and that looks pretty sweet. i'm definitely gonna look more into the carto-tanks too

The mini 2 is very nice. I'm using it as we speak. :)

Make sure you get the true V2--with a removable drip tip--if that matters to you.

Ogcigs.com has a basic Pyrex carto tank with metal end caps for around $15. Nothing fancy but they work great. Vaping one right now.

Don't be confused when they call a tank a DCT. You can put any carto in any carto tank as long as the length is correct. I also prefer the single coils.

I also need to learn to use cartotanks. I have failed miserably three times. Ive used all types of tanks so far but I want to use cartotanks. They look great and as I have read, they taste great. Ive been vaping for 68 days and I truly wish I had more vapers around me to learn from. : )

Stick around the forum and read.....this place is unbelievable with answers, help and knowledge!!

Subjective opinion here. What Kaya explained is true re: single vs dual coil, but a 1.5 ohm dual coil is not as smooth as a 3.0 ohm single coil. I can tell the difference immediately. Dual coils no matter the resistance or voltage used produces a warmer vape which my throat says is way too harsh.

I used to use the mega LR dual coil cartos by Smoktech. I found one unused, still in the wrapper just the other day. I hadn't used these in well over a year, not since I began using cartotanks exclusively. I primed it up and tried to vape it. AAAARRRHHhhhhh. Way hot vapor...harsh...very unpleasant. I forgot the resistance on these were 1.5 ohm. My preferences have changed in 1.5 years and I now prefer a cooler vape. It's 2.5 -3.0 ohm single coils for me now.
