Natural fruits and other Naturals that contain small amounts of diacetyl...see #1

I am new to DIY and have been reading for a couple weeks now, here is a bit of info i have collected over the past few weeks:

  1. Diacetyl is the main ingredient of the typical butter aroma. It occurs naturally in apples, beans, butter, artichokes, black currants, blueberries, blue cheese and wheat.
  2. Diacetyl tastes like butter or butterscotch and in fact is used in the production of artificial butter flavors.
  3. The strawberry flavoring added to foods, like yogurt, ice cream and certain fast-food strawberry milkshakes, usually contains diacetyl as one of the chemical ingredients
  4. The chemical composition of artificial banana flavoring is similar to strawberry flavoring, with diacetyl acting as one of a number of chemicals in the ingredient list.
  5. A naturally occurring chemical in dairy products like milk and cheese, diacetyl is sometimes added to enhance the flavor of such products.
soooooo, just because of what I have found, i stay away from milkey, creamy, rich, buttery flavors as well as strawberries, bananas, apples and blueberries. also, since they claim it is a butterscotch'ie taste, and from what Tom at Natures Flavoring told me, i stay away from butterscotch and caramel.....just in case.
sure, the flavoring mft. may say their flavorings do not contain diacetyl... but i am not taking any chances..just in case there are small traces of it.
i mean, strawberry is strawberry and banana is banana.. how do they get the strawberry or banana flavor without the 'chemical composition' as stated above???
i just am not taking any chances. i stopped smoking for many reasons....one of them is to save my lungs. what we are talking about here with diacetyl.. well, it will destroy your lungs. therefore, i am staying away from these flavors (or any more that i might find in the future).
alot of vendors may call it... oh, i dont know, lets say black cherry marshmallow. well, to me that sounds like its only black cherry and marshmallow...BUT, they may add a touch of strawberry as a subtle note. or blueberry.. or butterscotch or caramel, all of the above... who knows? they all seem to have their little secret to subtle notes in a juice AND they aint tellin ya whats in there because it is 'their little secret."
i know 'something' is in there because that 'something' is making it a little more yummy than my diy juice. . i want to KNOW what is in there. so the majority of the time, i make my own for this simple reason
i stay away from citrus blends completely.
hope this helps

Old news.
I am mindful of the fact that many flavors have harmful chemicals but after 35 years of pumping tar into my lungs I don't get too worked up about it. I vape whatever flavors I want, diacetyl free or not. I just don't make them an all day vape.
You could spend days reading on this forum the many many threads on this topic that have been started over years:

I'm new to the site, so this is new news to me..and I'm not that familiar with the threads yet... forgive me if I don't want to see anyone put harmful things in their lungs. After all isn't that why you stopped smoking???? As for me I wont put anything in my lungs that I am aware could harm myself, but to each his own..This is why I will no longer buy e juices from vendors. Safer to mix my own, at least I know what im putting in there... Happy Vaping!:)

You can always vape unflavored. I'm not saying that to be snarky, but because the possibility of diacetyl causing natural components is HUGE. Your eliminating almost every flavor this way. One manufacturer might have acetoin in it and the other doesn't. No they are not all the same. It is true that creamy buttery flavors, custards, tiramasu, might be more likely to have them it's not true for other flavors. There is also the controversy of the diacetyl replacment; acetyl propionyl not being much different than diacetyl when vaporized.

There's a large amount of diacetyl in cigarettes. Vaping isn't without harm or risks, but they are greatly reduced in comparison to smoking. It's important to be informed in order to make the best decision for yourself. All anyone can do is the best they can with what they know at the time.

FA and TPA have taken a proactive stance of alerting or pulling reccomendation for flavors they believe contain diacetyl, acetoin, or acetyl propionyl. I wish they all would and the same for eliquid manufacturers. But then I wish they'd list when cinnamon is used too. However, the trend of "premium" lines is that they don't even want to reveal PG/VG ratios like it's a trade secret. So I that's why I DIY.

I'm serious. The safest eliquid is to vape unflavored.
