My favorite part of vaping... watching cops shrug!

I started vaping about a month ago. While waiting for a light rail train downtown, I was in what we call 'Pioneer Square' which has been a complete no smoking zone for a while now. People are routinely written tickets for smoking there. I was vaping away, and two guys approached me and started asking questions. (I think that is one of the toughest parts for a new vaper, getting all these questions from people who see you vaping, and feeling like you have to get it right because you want to represent vaping appropriately!) Anyhow, I was telling them what I thought about vaping, answered a few of their questions, etc. Around this time, a transit cop is walking our way, and one of the guys points to the cop and says 'and these guys can't write you a ticket!' Of course, the cop stops dead in his tracks with a 'did you really just say that' look on his face, and says 'actually, I can.' So I say, 'oh, its an electric, not a cigarette', and he says, 'oh, okay', and walks away. Pure WIN.

Similarly... Just two nights ago, I was on the college campus where I take classes at night. Its pitch black outside, and I am standing outside vaping around the back of the building overlooking a field (no roads, etc). Note, that this campus has been 'tobacco free' for a while now, and they will write tickets which are about $25 a pop and can affect your eligibility to graduate. Two other students come out and see me, and proceed to light up analogs. We are chatting away about something funny, and never even notice the rent-a-cops rolling down the lawn with all their lights off. Next thing you know, they are getting out of the car and walking towards us, and I just say 'ah, sorry guys'. I didn't even have to show them my ID. Ha ha!

Anyone else have similar stories? Also, in case anyone was wondering, I started with those cheap little X-Hale 02 cigs from 7-Eleven, and upgraded to a 510 this week and its amazing. I don't think I'll be seeing any analogs in my future!

This is a quote from the NYC administrative code:

"Smoking" means inhaling, exhaling, burning or carrying any lighted
cigar, cigarette, pipe, or any form of lighted object or device which
contains tobacco.

Just dont be a PITA to a cop and explain what it is and you will be fine. Cops are supposed to investigate.

I pulled my SmokeStik out at the doctor's office, because he'd never heard of an e-cig. He's a smoker, trying to quit. The receptionists were all over it, saying "Oh, I see it light up! And that's not smoke??" Then I walked out of the office vaping away, head held high. I could see question marks over peoples' heads in the waiting room. :p

I did get a look at a red light the other day while vaping on my Riva. I guess it could look a little suspect... he kept glancing over, then finally smiled at me. Interesting...

Haven't done any vaping in Portland's living room yet, but now I want to!

"Is that one of those fake cigarettes?" is what I was asked by a friend I was skyping with who lives in Vegas. Apparently she sees a lot of people vaping in the casino where she works and thought it was just a vanity thing - all for looks. Once I explained how it worked, and that I no longer smoke analogs - at all - she wanted websites & recommends so she could buy PVs and juice for christmas gifts to her kids.

I was at the mall the other day and after eating in the food court I went to the bathroom to wash my hands. (Messy sandwich lol). In the restroom I took a few puffs on my KR8. I put it in my pocket and I was exhaling while starting to wash my hands. A guy walked in right at the moment I was exhaling but my hands were already in the sink. I noticed that he paused a little while walking in but he didn't say anything. He walked past me and I watched in the mirror as he passed behind me. He was looking at my hands in the sink and sniffed as he walked by. His look went from a little angry to confused as I am sure he smelled Vanilla. lol. I just gave him a confused look in the mirror like "What are you looking at?" and he went into a stall. I bet he was wondering what the hell he saw and why he smelled vanilla.

I am always a little worried that Cops will think it is some kind of drug paraphernalia. I have family and friends who are Police Officers and I have explained it to them. But, their first reaction is always to assume it is drugs. After explaining it to them they know what it is but some still think it looks like something that would be used for smoking drugs. One of them even mentioned that my KR808 sounded like a crack pipe. lol.

The advice given to me (By Cops) is that if a Cop approaches me about it, try and explain that it is a "Nicotine Inhaler" that I am using to help quit smoking and that it "Simulates" smoking but only contains Nicotine. I haven't had to use that yet but that is my plan if I need to.

It's funny, I'm asthmatic (yeah, yeah, I know, I know) and I have an inhaler that I use with an aerochamber. I was sitting in the parking lot at CVS taking a couple puffs off this thing (no vapor comes out, but it's a pretty obvious device, doesn't look like I'm using an inhaler), and there was a cop in his car a few parking spaces away. Then I had to take a BC headache powder (I was running an errand for my boss, so had to get rid of this headache STAT). And I'm thinking, "Damn, this cop is over there and I'm puffing on some suspicious looking device and now I'm downing white powder from a piece of paper..." I'm sure the way I was self-consciously ducking down in the front seat didn't help.

Still, I was thinking "C'mon, copper. Bust me." Would have been a good story to tell if he had, at any rate. As it stands now, it's a mediocre story. I should have embellished.

I just started last Friday and so far I've only gotten some strange looks. I have talked to my friends about it and most of them always pull out the ole "well nicotine can be poisonous so be careful"...realllllllllly? Lets not have that conversation about analogs lol.

We could start a whole LIST on this one... first one comes to mind is TYLENOL can be poisonous if you take too much. Oi, I swear, people have way too much to say and too little on the brain.

I wrote in another thread about the couple in the car next to me staring in such confusion or fascination at my long red ecig they missed their light!

I vaped my Smoke Stik right in front of the wandering cop they have in the DMV! He didn't say a word :) I was using the gold battery with the CZ in the end though, kind of obvious.

PS. I should add another story related to nicotene poisoning. I had a faulty battery and was vaping 16mg juice at work, I was trying to get the thing to activate and had just filled my cart, well it caused a right proper shot of ejuice down the back of my throat. There was no spitting it out without forcing myself to puke, and I'd rather die than puke, so I drank a bunch of water instead. :( I'm telling you though, most people probably would have puked! I was so dizzy and nauseous I laid on the floor under my desk for about 2 hours, and it took a total of about 4 hours for the effect to go away.

So, do be careful! Don't overfill and don't try to force a stubborn battery :S You swallow that stuff and you will likely puke.

Ha! Yeah, I get looks with my pink SS with the bling, and my Hendu. It's my "dress up" e-cig. The Riva is where the glances get a little more interesting.

Well, actually. Its kinda silly, but my e-cig buddy got pulled over for using an 'electronic device' and the cop was all like HEY, i shuold write you a ticket for using an electronic device. and he said It was just an e-cig*shows him* and the cop was like....... WHOA COOL! haha! so ever since then When I'm driving (I always vape while I drive) but, When a cop drives by I'll make sure to take a drag because yes, I do have time to get pulled over and demonstrate the beauty of this device to a cop, and No I highly doubt I'd be risking it for a ticket

I had 3 TSA agents looking at my carry on before they decided to check it. As they were looking, I told them it was an EGO. I told them that I used to carry regular mini cigs but recently switched for a longer battery life. They said that they had never seen anything like it. They just smiled and let me go after they had a good look.
