I thank the person who introduced me to vaping. It really was 1 vape and I've not had a cigarette since. 6 years ago. I smoked @45/day of the horizon purple. I've not even wanted to smoke since then. It's a miracle. But the right set up will make the transition seamless. You have to take notice of your smoking habit. Which brand, how many, nicotine strength and how you smoke. Do you want a similar setup as a cigarette? Do you like the throat hit. I stuck to tobacco flavours. I don't like sub ohm vaping. I don't make my own atomisers. I just like the no nonsense cheap kit. It's on,y recently that I've been trying different atomisers but they all get the same settings as I started with. I've tried other sets but I'm a creature of habit and don't really like spending money on components that may potentially not suit me. So I've found my sweet spot and I stick to it.
I recently paid quite a lot on some eliquid. One note. Very posh. One vape and I knew I'd wasted money. I sent them to a friend who will appreciate them.
I've only recently gone to a mod instead of a pen. Still the same settings but a different shape in my hand. It's ok. I do use it. I've found aspire brand has always been high quality, reasonable cost with choices. The replacement parts are cheap as well. Make sure that the brand you choose has spare parts readily available and cheap.
There are vape shops around now and they will customise a unit for you.I would recommend that because try before you buy. But really it doesn't take too much to find the ONE. Make sure it's variable wats or volts or both. You can then start low and move up or the other way round.
I have quite a few spares and would be happy to send you a starter kit @$10 with fluid if you know what strength. I would suggest going higher than your normal to really satisfy the nicotine need as you give up.
FB for kit or messenger kathryn hodgson . I'm in Australia. It gives me great feelings if I can support somebody to give the smokes up.

It's only 6 months since I quit smoking tobacco. I started successfully with a small eGo ONE and in a few days I upgraded to eGo ONE Mega V2. I started to build "my own" CLR coils and upgraded again to the Ultimo tank and the MG RTA head. Since then I also purchased the mouth to lung Rolls-Royce, the Kayfun V5.
I started to vape 12mg base. After a month, I reduced the nicotine to 6mg. Now I vape 3mg and also enjoy the flavours at 0mg.
Vaping became my hobby, just like pipes and tobaccos before. I own many tanks and mods and I make my own "mustard" :)

How long have you been at the Vaping, @Jiggs ?

There's nothing wrong with dual use as far as I know. 9/10 of all the Vapers I know quit this way. Some got it done in days, other took months, one took over a year. Sometimes the longer journey teaches you more about yourself.
I started on 24mg at 3-4 watts (in the form of rip-off cig-a-likes) then moved directly to eGo batteries (7 watts?) with 18mg. Then the VV stuff arrived, then VW soon after. TC? - sometimes.
Once I'd quit smoking, dropped to 12mg (10-12 watts) then 6mg.
I sometimes vape 3mg at high power and other times vape 12mg at low power. Mostly though 6mg is my number.
I'm working my way back to MTL - most of my rebuildable stuff is MTL (not the RDAs).

Personally speaking... I'm not that bothered about the exact resistance/ohms of a coil. People (not us on here) have some weird ideas about all that i.m.o. There is little distinction for true MTL vapers between a coil above or below 1.0ohm (to a point, of course), only the design of the coil and atomizer for airflow and power.
Today I was vaping a 'subohm' coil at 14w... and yet you say 'subohm' to some people and they are banning you from 12 or 18mg liquid and making out like the world is gonna end if you hold that evil thing near your mouth. The shops like to spread this too, to sell more low-strength juice.

Either way, don't be scared of stronger liquids and subohm coils unless the coil is designed for DTL and 20+ watts.
I started with an ego battery about 3 years ago. Not very satisfactory, but I really didn't know what I was doing at that time. Christmas 2015, my son gave me an MVP 3.0 unit, but I never used it. I have since purchased at least 15 devices with various coils, over 100 juices with various levels of nic and pg/vg ratios. One problem is that since I don't find any unit or juice satisfying, I tend to reach for a cig instead of reaching for my ecig. I thought I was on the right track until Feb of this year when my 3 year old lab tragically died due to a vet mistake. I slowly began to increase my smoking up to 1 pack/day. Now I'm counting cigs so I never run out. At least I no longer buy cartons. I think that part of this process is to be aware of what you putting in your mouth, just like dieting. Constant awareness until it becomes another habit.

Have you tried the nautilus tanks?

I'm MTL and am experimenting with different watts, ohms and nic levels. What combo helped you quit analogs?
I got down to about 12 analogs a day for almost 20 years when I decided to give vaping a try. Started with the VUSE and got tired of that real quick. Got my first mod about two weeks ago and have been doing direct inhales with 6 and 9MG at 30 watts. Seems to work for me. After a month of vaping I could never go back to analogs.

Well said & well done.
I find it strange when people (and sometimes shops) tell folk that somehow anything over 6mg is irresponsible or too much when vaping DTL.
9mg or 12mg at 30w is hardly world-ending stuff.
I tried 18mg at 30w once.... OK, I admit it... that was a bit strong.

I duel used for over a year when I first started. When I got serious about putting down the stinkies I went to a B&M and got really good information. Now, this was before all this Deeming when they could really help you. I got a Nautilus Mini tank, ITazte VTR for a mod, and 24 mg/ml unflavored 50/50 juice. I still duel used for a bit. When I decided to fully quit, I set a date (my birthday) for my stop date. I have now been smoke-free for just over 30 months and it feels great.

Tobacco free for 4 months now. I was on and off vaping for 2 years before quitting. I needed to find flavors I liked and settled on exclusively fruit flavors. I needed 6mg to stop the cigs and am on 3mg now with the occasional nic free tank. Mod was/is an eleaf 100w with atlantis v2 using 0.5 ohm coils. I bought a smok alien with baby beast and alternate between the two frequently during the day. At the moment I use tc 0.18(60w,270°c) in the atlantis on the alien, and a t6(70-80w depending on the flavor) in the baby beast on the eleaf

I found dueling took away from the vape experience, flavor was dull or inconsistent. When I stopped the cigs completely it was easier to enjoy a vape.

This may get long, but here goes.

I do MTL exclusively. I guess I took to vaping naturally. I stopped smoking the day after I got my first 901 pen style with 24mg liquid. Stayed with the pen styles (901, 801, 808, 510, etc.) and 24mg until I got my first VW device. I somehow missed the Ego trend and jumped to a VAMO, followed by various box mods. With VW I dropped the nic to 18mg and eventually to 12mg which is where I am now.

I am currently alternating between TC box mods and my squonkers (3 REOs and a Pico Squeeze). The REOs are mech mods but the Pico has at least minimal protection against shorts and overdischarge.

I roll my own coils, but if I had to use prebuilt I would probably go with something like a Protank. The Nautilus gets good reviews but I can't say as I never used one.

I use mostly Kayfun Lite + RTAs (all clones) on my TC mods and either RM2s or Little-O 16 clones on the squonkers. I would build the same for a regulated VW mod as I would for the squonkers, small chamber atomizer, single coil somewhere between 1.2 and 2.0 ohms, kanthal wire 28-30 gauge, 2.0-2.5mm coil diameter with rayon wick.

I hope some of that long story helps. Good luck on your journey.

Well, THIS time vaping I was recommended the Nautilus 2 on here, and I was glad at the recommendation. I usually vape MTL 1.8 coil, 8 watts, about 18 nic juice. I do also use the 0.7 coils as I enjoy the flavor... I merely turn it up to 10 watts and lower the airflow. It's a bit more juice but the taste is great on that coil. I'd still consider that MTL as there are so many variables besides sub-ohm. I just bought the steampunk tesla nano 120 and I love it... That vape is the smoothest, most consistent I have encountered. I don't use all its capabilities (yet) and I can't see going much over 20 watts even if I start building my own coils (this feels less urgent now, but I should still learn to use it, LOL) and using TC. I can DL if I have to, I just don't love it.

I'd second the comments of not being too upset if you dual vape for a time (unless you know yourself, and a hard, focused switch would be the best way for you) almost all of us did for various length of time. Mine was technically a week, but if I had switched when I first encountered e-cigs, I'd have a much longer time without smoking. That said, I was similar, after a week, I decided "Vaping is really working for me, I'd better quit now, while I CAN." I did that because I was one who needed a hard, focused switch after a short period of time to be successful, I tend to be the kind of dual user who smokes 2 packs, and vapes one pack, grudgingly, because I had to.... So I knew any kind of long term dual usage would cause a fail in me.

Best of luck, Jiggs. I hope things move forward well for you. It's great you're asking questions and seeking feedback, it will help you a lot. :)

Best of luck with vaping!

Anna

It's been really good reading how everyone got off the analogues & good to see MTL is still an option. I think more tanks should be brought to the market though as the only way I can get a new setup now is by getting an RTA & I've gotta get my mate to build for me cos of my nerves. There are not enough MTL tanks but the market is flooded with sub ohm tanks.
The only tank that satisfies me is the NautilusX. The rest are RTA'S.
