More coil wraps, better flavor?

I have been using a RSST with 400 mesh and 34 gauge Kanthal. My coil is about 3 full wraps for 1.5 ohms. Someone just gave me some 24 gauge Nichrome. Now I have heard Nichrome is generally lower resistance than Kanthal and the gauge he gave me is going to be much lower than the one i am using now.

I have always thought the more wraps around the wick would give better coverage and heat more liquid. So if I use the Nichrome I will probably need quite a few more wraps to get back to 1.5 ohms. Does anyone have an insight on the number of coils/wick coverage? Would it be worth trying or is there no real improvement in flavor by adding more wraps?

There's big improvements in adding wraps bro, especially when their micro diameter (1/16" or slightly less) and wrapped so their touching each other (or as close as humanly possible). Micro coils have been taking over the RBA / RDA scene for the last 6 months or so.

Here's one now :) my latest micro variety - the tornado :)

whoa, that is a HUGE jump with your wire, what kind of mod you using? If it is VV/VW don't waste the wire, you would need almost 15-20 wraps to get it anywhere near a firable resistance, if you are using a mech than make sure you are hitting it with a meter and check your batteries for capabilities. Your on the right track with your thoughts of more coil make more flavor, it will also help with vapor as well but with mesh you are quickly going to hit the wicking limit for it when you get crazy.

I want to do a micro on my genesis tank, but I can't get the wick right. I'm using cotton. has anyone done mesh? and just left a gap around the wick hole (because the wick would be tiny with the microcoil)

with micros, mesh wont keep up with the heat, what kind of cotton you using, not all cotton is created equal

Amazing work! Man I need a microscope to do that.

I know, got the wire from a guy so though I'd try it but I hear you on the amount of wraps. I have a Provari and a mech with a safety fuse. Gotta check this thing with a meter carefully. Happy to hear this is at least on the right track with more wraps.

Another thing to experiment with is folding a piece of your 34 ga in the middle and wrapping the two wires side be side as if it was one wire, and as close spaced as possible. Take the wick out and wrap directly on the wick, sort of folding, pushing the wire around the wick. If you use a hollow wick, put a pin or paper clip in it first and wrap your wire and install it then pull the pin as a last step. A hollow wick will do a great job of keeping up with about anything as long as you tilt it a little.

-> Super X, Oooh look a swirly!!

-> De castro Posted a link at nu vapor about several home made tools that make micro coiling and threading a wick a snap. Search for my username or "wizmo"

Or buy one of these

If that is nichrome 60, Temco shows that as 1.671 ohms per foot so rounding up on the decimals, a 1/16" dia coil would need about 60 coils to get your +/- 1.5ohm....

Or yo could make a macro coil enclosing several cotton balls......

Thanks for the info it made me take a second look at the wire he gave me and its 24mm not gauge. It works out to be 30 gauge i think so I am gonna start wrapping and see what happens!

I know right :) that's 27 ga Kanthal A1. It was yellow/ orange when I released my finger and it cooled some before I could snap. It is one micro TORNADO shaped hotspot bro. Vapes amazing :)

Here's a little vid of another normal (not tornado) micro fired up:)

aha 30 gage nichrome 60 is 6.68 ohms per foot / 12 inches = .55666666etc per inch so yo want to wrap 2.75" for your 1.5ohm coil.

Exact number of coils depends on the diameter. My suggestion is to measure your kanthal and mark it with a sharpie

When yo get to the marked part, stop winding.

Good info, thank you. I came in at 1.1

seems the Nichrome doesn't heat up as fast. Had a tough time working out the hot spots to get even glow. Want to try 28 gauge Kanthal to compare. But this thing is producing more flavor and vapor compared to the 34 gauge I used previously. got this coil to 6 wraps and better wick coverage. So far a good experiment for me.
