So I stopped smoking after 30 years and have been vaping for approximately 2 month..and I use a lot of e juice.. Here in Denmark the price will soon go up, and according to my calculations, I "only" save around 500 kroners a month (I think it is around 50 dollars). In my calculations there is coils etc..so my question is this: can I save some money on making my own juice?

Yes. If something is pennies on the dollar, it's much cheaper than it cost originally. DIY is literally pennies on the dollar.
Example:
Milk Chocolate type price for e-liquid on internet = $4.75/10 Ml. ---I'm guessing typical.

VS $0.27 !!
That's $0.03 vs $0.48 per ml approx. More than 10x the cost in this demo.

After you learn DIY you may cuss the e-liquid places that sell e-liquid and make a ton of money on us a ton.

The overhead in business drives up the price. I don't blame juice vendors for charging the prices they do. Look at Coca-Cola. It's water with CO2 infused and some secret flavoring. Buy it at a convenience store and it's $2 a bottle for 16oz. With ejuice we have access to the secret flavorings.

Juice vendors have lots of costs that we don't. It's just lucky that we can buy the same components and do it all in our home to our own tastes and preferences.

Not sure what Retail e-Liquids cost in Denmark? But in the USA, a 30ml Bottle of retail e-Liquid cost anywhere from $10 ~ $15US. I can make the Same amount of DIY e-Liquid for Less than $1US.

And having DIY Supplies on hand keeps me Unaffected by pending or future Regulations/Taxes.

So Yeah, I would Highly Recommend considering making you own e-Liquids.

Actually, 500 DKK is equal to 74.57 USD (today's exchange rates... and don't be impressed; I looked it up:rolleyes:), if that takes any more of the sting out of it.;)
In my calculations there is coils etc..so my question is this: can I save some money on making my own juice?
There are all sorts of ways to save money when vaping. From the hardware side, the two biggies are self-control (don't go chasing every new battery, mod, and atty; and learn how to optimize the equipment you have) and build your own coils.

Coil building can be as simple as wrapping some wire (kanthal, stainless steel, etc.) around an inexpensive jeweler's screwdriver and then threading it with some cotton. End cost? just a few cents. As this thread is in the DIY e-liquid sub forum; I will let it go at that.

Saving money from a DIY e-liquid standpoint also has lots of ways to save, or not save, depending on what your end goals are.

If money is your biggest concern; doing a super simple unflavored mix (just PG, VG, and nicotine) is about as easy, and cheap, as you can get. It meets any nicotine dependence you may have, many find it rather pleasant to vape (it has just a hint of sweet to it), and it is dirt cheap (especially if you buy the ingredients in bulk). My current unflavored mix costs me $0.007706 USD/milliliter (that's right; less than 1 cent per mL) because I buy my PG and VG by the gallon, and my nicotine by the liter.

If you are all about taste; then it will be more expensive. Flavor concentrates can be as, or even more, expensive than the nicotine (per mL; because you usually don't buy in nearly as large of quantities). Then, if you really become a flavor hound, you start feeling the need to buy 20 different "strawberry" flavor concentrates, from 13 different flavor manufacturers, just to get that "perfect" strawberry. Now multiply that by 20 or 30 flavors.

Now, add to that, if you want to chase clouds. So now, instead of going through 5-15mL of a higher nicotine-containing e-liquid, you are going through 30-50mL a day of a lower nicotine-containing e-liquid which you still have to flavor. You see where this can go.

Before you start to freak out, and say "this is no cheaper than smoking!," please remember you likely smoked from habit; and not as a hobby (chasing clouds, and/or flavor). At least I didn't. All I wanted was a cigarette that didn't taste like the south end of a north-bound cow, and would satisfy my addiction; though your experience may be completely different.:)

So, to be fair, a "true-er" comparison (vaping to smoking) is probably best to use a low-consumption, unflavored, basic-rig, cost base when you look at "vape" verses "smoke." In that light vaping will always be much, much cheaper than smoking. Everything else boils down to how much do you want to spend for fun and flavor. And how much convenience (ready-made e-liquids, coils, etc.) is worth; compared to time. This can be a no-brainer if you enjoy things like cooking and/or making things with your hands. If you hate doing that kind of stuff, then DIY can become a real chore, and the value of ready-made becomes much more acceptable.

And, of course, none of this addresses the potential savings gained from unknown long-term health benefits.

Bottom line? It all depends on you, and how, and what, you want to accomplish. That is the beauty of vaping in general, and DIY in particular; you can make it what you want it to be. The hard part is figuring out what you want!:D

Yep, looking at the pictures of some people's stashes here makes it clear that you can spend an arbitrarily large amount on vaping. But I think you're right that if you exercise some discretion you can do it for a lot less. I fall into a bit of an intermediate zone- I've definitely spent more on vaping related stuff (flavors are a big culprit here) than is absolutely necessary, but not the vast sums the truly obsessed do.

I don't know how much it costs to smoke in Denmark, but... where I live smoking would cost me >$4000.00 US a year. That leaves a fair bit of play n the vape budget. I have started using an RDA, based on the advice from you and others in another thread. I'm quite happy to have done so (though I'm still not all that good at it,) because of the ease of re-wicking, etc. I spent a little bit of money getting set up to do so though (certainly more than was absolutely necessary,) and I think it will take quite a while for that to pay for itself. I'm pretty easy on coils though, and I tend to sale-shop, so factory-made coils are a pretty negligible expense for me.

When I quit in my 2nd year vaping 6 years ago I had been smoking 2 PAD for decades. A carton was $36 and that wasn't the popular ones. I smoked Doral Ultra Lights. Multiply that by 6 cartons a month and 12 months and I had $2600 a year to blow on vaping hardware and juice.

Not buying cigarettes and instead spending $40 a month on vape shop juice saved me lots of cash. When I started to mix my own juices I could make $40 worth of good juice for several dollars. It's a win-win situation once you decide what you like in flavors and quit buying flavors just to try them.

Buy lots of 10ml bottles of flavors you think you might like and once you decide which you like, buy those in larger bottles. DIY gets even cheaper once you buy the initial supplies and fall into a more refined system where you know what you like. It's down to replenishment cost for what you use at that point.

Ok i finally got through your post , and wow I appreciate your input a lot.. Money is not my biggest concern, unless you ask my wife of course ... Joke aside.. I am used to spend 1500 Danish kroners each month on cigarettes, and I would be lying if I said that I can easily afford that, so my goal is to avoid the danger from cigarettes and save some money at the same time.. Thanks for your time.
